What I Expect From You Is More Than Romance - Actress Jessica Larny Writes Open Letter To Her Future Husband

Actress Jessica Larny has touched hearts with a deeply personal message addressed to her future husband, offering a glimpse into her hopes for love, companionship and a lasting relationship.

In the emotional note shared recently, the actress expressed her desire to meet a man whose presence embodies peace, wisdom and sincerity.

“I don’t know where you are right now or what path life is taking you through, but I hope you are becoming the kind of man whose presence feels like peace,” she wrote. “I pray your heart stays soft, your mind stays wise, and your intentions stay pure.”

The actress said she could not promise perfection when they eventually meet, but pledged honesty, loyalty, laughter and unwavering commitment, even during difficult moments.

“I hope we build something deeper than appearances — a friendship, a safe place and a home within each other,” she added.

Larny also expressed her desire for a relationship that thrives beyond the excitement of romance, one where both partners continue to support each other’s ambitions and nurture their bond through life’s challenges.

“Until then, I’m growing too: learning, healing, evolving and preparing myself for the kind of love that lasts. Whoever you are, I hope you find me at the right time,” she wrote.

Beyond matters of the heart, the outspoken actress has also used her platform to address challenges facing young women in the film industry, particularly the issue of sexual exploitation and quid pro quo demands.

Speaking with Potpourri, Larny urged aspiring actresses not to succumb to pressure from individuals who attempt to exchange opportunities for personal favors.

“I went through that countless times because some people assume you are desperate for fame or unaware of how the industry works,” she said. “If a role is meant for you, there will be no quid pro quo attached to it. Focus on your craft, deliver your best performance and move on.”

According to her, every role matters, regardless of its size, stressing that a well-executed performance can leave a lasting impression on audiences.

Larny further encouraged women to remain focused on their career goals and avoid shortcuts that could compromise their values.

“When women understand their purpose and stay committed to their dreams, some people may try to create shortcuts for them. But talents are the foundation of this industry. Producers, directors and actors all have important roles to play, and everyone should be mindful of actions that undermine professionalism,” she said.

Born Jessica Naa Nuerkie Larnyoh, the actress later shortened her professional name to Jessica Larny after repeatedly encountering difficulties with producers and editors who struggled to spell her full name correctly. Today, she continues to build her profile as both a performer and an advocate for professionalism and integrity within the entertainment industry.

The Ghanaian actress has featured in many Nollywood movies and has a strong fans base in Nigeria, especially in the city of Lagos.

NSCDC Burst Kidnappers Detention Camp In Badagry, Frees 24 Victims Including Toddler

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has uncovered an illegal detention camp in the Badagry area of Lagos State and rescued 24 victims, including a toddler.

Four suspected members of a cross-border criminal syndicate, said to be nationals of Togo, Benin Republic and Ghana, were arrested during an operation carried out by operatives of the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC in Itoga, Badagry.

The Lagos State Commandant, Adedotun Keshinro, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Oluwaseun Abolurin.

Keshinro attributed the success of the operation to intelligence gathering and community engagement, noting that the raid followed credible information on activities at suspected criminal hideouts in the area.

He said, “Operatives of the NSCDC Lagos State Command, acting on credible and actionable intelligence, arrested the kingpin and three other suspected illegal foreign nationals linked to missing persons found at various black spots and hideouts in Itoga, Badagry.

“The operation also led to the rescue of 24 victims comprising 18 males and six females, including a toddler. The victims are nationals of Togo, Benin Republic and Nigeria and are believed to have been lured into the camp through inducements and other deceptive means.”

The commandant disclosed that preliminary investigations showed that some of the victims had been missing for extended periods before they were rescued.

“Some of the victims had been declared missing by their families for periods ranging from three months to three years without any knowledge of their whereabouts,” he said.

Keshinro alleged that the suspects operated an elaborate scheme aimed at extorting money from victims’ relatives.

He said, “The suspects forcefully compelled some of the victims to fabricate stories during telephone conversations with their families, claiming they had been kidnapped, abducted or involved in accidents in a bid to obtain illicit money and ransoms from unsuspecting relatives.”

He further alleged that the victims were forced into criminal activities while being held in the camp.

“The perpetrators also compelled some of the victims to engage in fraudulent activities, trade in hard drugs and lure other unsuspecting persons into the camp,” he added.

The commandant said efforts by some families to locate their missing relatives had proved unsuccessful until intelligence obtained from local sources led operatives to the hideout.

He appealed to members of the public searching for missing relatives to come forward and assist in identifying the rescued victims.

“We call on members of the public to come forward and identify any of the victims who may be among relatives they have been searching for,” Keshinro said.

He added that the suspects would be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.

“Upon the conclusion of investigations, the suspects will be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements,” he stated.

Autism Foundation Provides Free Screening For Children In Ikorodu

As part of activities marking this year’s Children’s Day, the FOS Autism Foundation recently organised a one-day free neuro-developmental screening and

consultation programme in Ikorodu, Lagos, aimed at improving autism awareness and early intervention for children with special needs.

The outreach, which attracted over 70 children alongside parents, guardians and caregivers, featured a team of medical and developmental specialists, including

a consultant paediatrician, psychiatrist, psychologist, behaviour analysts, speech therapists and occupational therapists.

The programme focused on autism awareness, early screening, counselling and equipping parents with practical strategies to better support children with

developmental challenges.

In a statement, the founder of the FOS Autism Foundation, Osezusi Bolodeoku, said the initiative was driven by the need to make

essential support services accessible to families who may not be able to afford professional care.

She explained that many parents lack access to specialised intervention due to cost, adding that early guidance can significantly improve outcomes for

children.

“As professionals, accessing this kind of support requires significant financial capability. So what happens to children whose families cannot afford it?”

she said.

Bolodeoku, a behavioural analyst and educational psychologist, noted that her personal experience as a parent of a child with ADHD also inspired her advocacy,

stressing that parents can make meaningful progress when equipped with the right tools.

She added that Ikorodu was selected for the outreach due to the high number of children in the area who require developmental support, noting that while

government efforts in special education are commendable, more collaboration is still needed from private initiatives.

Bolodeoku also addressed misconceptions surrounding autism, stressing that it is not a disease or a “death sentence,” but a developmental condition that

benefits greatly from early intervention.

According to her, the foundation has also created support groups where parents can interact with professionals, receive guidance and follow up on their

children’s progress over time.

“Families are not leaving empty-handed. They are going home with recommendations and strategies, and they will continue to receive support and follow-up,”

she said.

Also speaking at the event, behaviour analyst Priscilla Ahaiwe-Okeke described the initiative as impactful, noting that access to therapy and assessment

remains expensive for many families.

She said the outreach provided parents with practical, home-based strategies to support their children while they await more structured interventions.

Ebola: LAWMA Issues Precautionary Advisory To Health Facilities In Lagos

The Lagos Waste Management Authority has issued a precautionary advisory to health facilities and medical waste handlers across the state following reports of an Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in parts of East Africa.

LAWMA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the advisory was aimed at ensuring health facilities, medical waste handlers, transporters and treatment operators remain vigilant and comply with infection prevention and medical waste management protocols.

According to a statement shared by the Lagos State Government on Saturday, Gbadegesin stressed that there were currently no confirmed cases of Ebola in Lagos State or anywhere in Nigeria.

“Although there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola in Lagos or Nigeria, preparedness remains one of the most effective tools in disease prevention.

“We are therefore urging all health facilities and licensed medical waste operators to strengthen infection prevention and control measures and ensure strict compliance with approved medical waste management protocols,” he said.

He said medical waste management plays a critical role in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and protecting healthcare workers, patients, waste handlers and the wider public.

The advisory directed health facilities to reinforce infection prevention measures, including proper hand hygiene, use of personal protective equipment, safe handling of medical specimens, environmental decontamination and strict segregation of infectious waste at source.

LAWMA also urged medical waste handlers and transporters to adhere to approved collection, transportation, treatment and disposal procedures for infectious waste and ensure the consistent use of protective equipment during operations.

Gbadegesin said the authority would continue monitoring compliance and engaging stakeholders to maintain high standards of medical waste management across the state.

He urged health institutions to review their infection prevention protocols and promptly report any suspected public health concerns through appropriate channels.

The LAWMA boss added that Lagos State remained on high alert and would continue to sustain surveillance, preparedness and response measures to safeguard public health.

APC Eti-Osa Assembly Primary: Stakeholders Warn Against Reversing The Outcome Of Election

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Eti-Osa Constituency I have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to intervene in what they described as efforts to overturn the outcome of the constituency’s House of Assembly primary election, warning that any attempt to reverse the outcome of the election would affect the chances of the party in the 2027 general elections.

The appeal was made on Thursday by a coalition of party leaders, traditional institutions, youth and women groups, community organisations and residents, who insisted that the incumbent lawmaker, Noheem Adams, won the primaries by a decisive margin and should be recognised as the party’s candidate.

Addressing a press conference, the leader of the group, Alhaji Owolabi Yisa, called on Tinubu, APC national leaders and the Lagos State APC chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, to ensure that the outcome of the primaries was respected.

According to the stakeholders, Adams secured 7,638 votes across the constituency, while his closest challenger, Saheed Bankole, polled 1,225 votes, giving the incumbent a margin of 6,413 votes.

“The will of the people was clearly expressed. This was not a narrow victory, and it was not a disputed mandate. It was an overwhelming endorsement by party members across Eti-Osa Constituency I,” the group said.

The stakeholders described the result as a clear reflection of grassroots support for Adams, whom they said had built strong ties across the constituency through community engagement, youth empowerment initiatives, educational support programmes and legislative representation.

“The people know him, trust him and have repeatedly demonstrated confidence in him,” they said.

The group warned that any attempt to reverse the outcome of the primaries could create divisions within the party and undermine its electoral prospects.

They argued that decisions perceived as contrary to the wishes of party members had contributed to internal crises and electoral setbacks in previous election cycles.

According to the stakeholders, disregarding the outcome of the primaries would risk weakening grassroots structures and demoralising party supporters.

Earlier, supporters of Adams staged a protest at the Eleganza Toll Gate, demanding that the outcome of the primaries be upheld.

Speaking during the demonstration, Alhaji Surajudeen Abejamu said the protest was aimed at drawing attention to what he described as the denial of the mandate given to Adams by party members.

“We are here on behalf of the primary votes we cast for Nojeem Babatunde Adams.

“He has been in the House since 2017, and he is the only person who has been working assiduously, especially at this last dispensation.

“This is a man who has acted like a senator to us. He has acted on behalf of the government. When we have any problems, you always signal him; he is here.

“When you are in need of the government, you signal him, and he will come. At all times, there is nothing we have here as a problem that you don’t see his impact,” he said.

Another supporter, Lukman Abiodun, said the protest was intended to draw the attention of party leaders to what he described as the wishes of voters in the constituency.

“I am a leader here. Here we voted, and Honourable Nojeem won his election.

“Our movement is basing its call on the fact that Nojeem Adams was the people’s choice and he won the primaries.

“We are seeking and calling the attention of President Bola Tinubu. We are calling on the national chairman of the great party, APC, and the Lagos State governor, including the state chairman of our party, Ojelabi, to look into our requests, to give us our mandates.

“Nojeem Adams was being voted for in Etiosa 1, and he won the election. He’s the people’s choice,” he said.

Stop The Interloping Distractions From Kogi State, Lagos Group Cautions James Faleke

The Concerned Lagos People’s Assembly has called on the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, to concentrate on his responsibilities in Lagos and reduce his involvement in political activities in Kogi State.

The group in a statement signed by it’s President Abayomi Odukale expressed concerns over what it described as Faleke’s increasing engagement in the political affairs of Kogi despite holding an electoral mandate in Lagos.

He said people of Ikeja elected Faleke to represent their interests in the National Assembly and expected his full attention to issues affecting the constituency and Lagos State.

Odukale mentioned that the group respects Faleke’s personal ties and heritage in Kogi State, but stressed that his primary responsibility remains to the constituents who elected him.

He argued that sustained involvement in political matters outside Lagos could raise questions about priorities and accountability, stressing that Lagos faces several development challenges requiring focused representation.

The group also expressed concern that political engagements beyond Lagos could create unnecessary distractions and affect party cohesion within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We believe Lagos deserves undivided advocacy and commitment from its elected representatives,” Odukale said.

They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to encourage Faleke to prioritise his mandate in Lagos and continue supporting efforts aimed at advancing the state’s development.

Reaffirming its commitment to the “Lagos-First Agenda,” the group said it would continue to advocate accountable leadership, transparency and policies that place the interests of Lagos residents at the forefront.

The assembly maintained that its position was not motivated by hostility but by a desire to strengthen democratic accountability and ensure effective representation for the people of Ikeja Federal Constituency.

No Suspect Has Been Arrested Six Weeks After Madam Olanike Adeola's Kidnap Ordeal In Lagos - Family

Six weeks after the abduction of Lagos resident, Madam Olanike Adebimpe Adeola, concerns are growing over the lack of arrests in the case, amid broader worries about Nigeria’s worsening security situation and the increasing prevalence of kidnapping across the country.

Madam Adeola was abducted in the early hours of April 21, 2026, when armed men reportedly forced their way into her residence in Lagos and took her away. According to accounts from the family, the attackers subjected her to physical and emotional trauma before demanding a ransom of ₦60 million for her release. The victim spent three days in captivity before regaining her freedom after relatives, friends, and supporters raised and paid US$15,000, the amount eventually negotiated with the kidnappers.

While her release brought relief to family members and well-wishers, the aftermath of the incident continues to take a toll on the victim and her loved ones. Family sources say the emotional and psychological effects of the ordeal remain significant, with concerns heightened by the fact that no suspects have been arrested six weeks after the incident.

The absence of arrests or publicly disclosed progress in the investigation has raised questions about accountability and the effectiveness of efforts to combat kidnapping and other violent crimes. The case has also renewed attention on Nigeria’s broader security challenges. Kidnappings for ransom have become increasingly common in several parts of the country, prompting calls for stronger security measures and improved protection for citizens.

Security analysts have repeatedly warned that the growing threat of abduction and violent crime is undermining public confidence and creating fear among residents, many of whom worry about their safety in homes and communities. The Adeola case underscores the need for sustained action by security agencies to track down perpetrators, strengthen intelligence gathering, and improve response mechanisms to violent crimes.

You Cannot Stop Bad Roads, Banditry By Merely Praying - Nollywood Actress Njoku Tells Christians

Nollywood actress and producer, Mary Remmy Njoku, has urged Christians to complement prayer with practical action in addressing societal challenges, saying issues such as poor roads, insecurity and failing healthcare systems cannot be solved through prayers alone.

The actress made the remarks in a post shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, where she stressed the need for accountability, planning and hard work alongside faith.

According to her, while prayer remains important for guidance, strength and wisdom, physical problems require practical solutions.

She wrote, “Dear African Christians, as we continue to pray, let us not confuse prayer with action. You cannot bind and cast away bad roads. You cannot rebuke a failing healthcare system into working. You cannot pray away the bandits who are terrorising our lives.

“Physical problems require physical solutions. Spiritual problems require spiritual problems.”

Njoku argued that food does not appear on a plate through prayer alone, noting that someone must still cultivate, harvest, transport or prepare it.

“You cannot pray food onto your plate, someone has to plant it, harvest it, transport it, cook it, or provide the means for you to get it yourself. Even in the bible, provision often came through people, work, and practical action,” she added.

She further stated that critical areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, education, security and economic development require deliberate efforts from leaders and citizens.

“Good roads, quality healthcare, education, security and economic growth will not appear simply because we pray about them.

“Prayer can guide us, strengthen us, and give us wisdom, but physical problems must also be addressed with physical action, planning, accountability, and hardwork,” she said.

Only Weak Men Rely On Money To Woo Women — Grand Tycoon

Spoken word artist, poet, author, and journalist Tofarati Ige, popularly known as Grand Tycoon, says men who depend only on money to attract women lack confidence and substance.

In a recent chat, the creative argued that while financial stability matters, it should not be the main tool for winning a woman’s heart. He said self-confidence, charisma, and what he calls “steeze” are more powerful.

“As a man, you should have a sweet approach, using the right words to grab a woman’s attention. Real women want to be wooed. They want you to say sweet things and blow their minds,” he said.

Grand Tycoon said courtship should be intentional and thoughtful, not transactional. He stressed that women value emotional intelligence, creativity, and genuine effort over flashy displays of wealth.

“Money is part of life; nobody is denying that. But if that’s all you have to offer, then you need to work on yourself. Presence, confidence, and how you carry yourself matter a lot. Some men think throwing money around is the shortcut, but real connection goes beyond that,” he added.

Known for weaving social commentary into his performances, he noted that modern dating has become overly materialistic, with many young men feeling pressured to prove their worth financially before building a connection.

He urged men to develop their personality, communication skills, and self-worth, saying attraction built on authenticity lasts longer than one built on spending power.

The creative also advised women to look beyond material gestures when choosing partners. “Meaningful relationships thrive on mutual respect, understanding, and emotional depth,” he said.

Through his comments, Grand Tycoon once again blended lifestyle insight with the thought-provoking perspective that defines his art.

Lagos Warns Consumers Against Lead-contaminated Products

The Lagos State Government has warned consumers to be vigilant against hazardous products, particularly those containing lead, as part of efforts to safeguard public health.

The General Manager of the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA), Afolabi Solebo, gave the warning during a meeting with the Executive Director of Sustainable Research and Action for Environmental Development (SRADev) Nigeria, Leslie Adogame, on Thursday in Lagos.

Mr Solebo said the state government remained committed to protecting consumers’ rights and ensuring that products in the marketplace meet established safety standards.

He emphasised the need for increased awareness of the dangers of lead exposure, noting that items such as paints, batteries, cosmetics and other consumables could pose serious health risks if contaminated.

According to him, LASCOPA is ready to work closely with SRADev Nigeria to advance environmental health and consumer protection objectives across the state.

He stated, “Our aim is to foster collaboration and strengthen the partnership between both organisations towards the elimination of lead in paints, batteries, cosmetics, and consumable products.

“It also aims to safeguard consumers from exposure to substandard and hazardous products associated with lead contamination and other environmental health risks.

“The Lagos State Government will continue to prioritise consumer safety by strengthening regulatory frameworks and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to eliminate hazardous products from circulation.”

Earlier, Mr Adogame, also the programme manager for the Lead Exposure Elimination Project, said the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration and strengthening partnerships toward eliminating lead in consumer products and reducing environmental health risks.

He said both organisations would focus on strategies such as consumer education, public advocacy, research and enforcement initiatives to curb the circulation of substandard and unsafe goods.

Mr Adogame noted that the partnership would enhance public awareness and promote safer consumption practices among residents.

The collaboration is expected to improve regulatory enforcement and reduce exposure to harmful substances in Lagos State.

Fuji musician Remi Aluko has revealed that he can barely see after years of battling glaucoma.

The singer disclosed his condition during a recent interview on Oyinmomo TV, explaining that his vision has deteriorated despite undergoing eye surgery in the past.

Even before now, speculation had been rife that the fuji star , had lost his sight and keeping it a secret. Some people have said that whenever he is performing, his boys stylishly guide his movements on stage to prevent the public from knowing about his visual impairment.

Also, a young man who watched his performance at Ketu, Lagos, recently said that he seemed to believe that the Fuji star had gone blind because of the way his boys surrounded him during his performance.

Aluko said he currently cannot see and lives with blindness, though many people are unaware because he carries himself confidently.

He noted that he has learned to manage daily life independently and deliberately avoids dwelling on his condition to prevent depression.

“I’m a glaucoma patient. I’m managing myself; I’m currently not seeing. Despite being a glaucoma patient, many people don’t know. There’s no difference between me and a blind person now, but no one knows because I don’t let my condition weigh me down.

“Thank God that I know how to take care of myself like someone who can see. I decided not to dwell on my condition because I don’t want to be depressed,” he said.

The Fuji star, known for his vibrant stage performances, remains active in the music industry despite his health challenges.

Aluko began performing professionally at age of 15. He made his debut in 1998 with the album Celebration, released under Oregun Records. Over the years, Aluko has released several albums, including Goodnews (1999), One time (2002/2003), The Child (2000), and Ajela (2003/2004) amongst others.

Please Forgive Me Over my Comments On Oyo School Children Abduction - Gospel Singer Yinka Alaseyori

Gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has apologised to Nigerians who felt offended by her recent comments on the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.

In a video shared on Instagram Wednesday, the singer expressed regret over the backlash that followed her earlier remarks, saying she never intended to make anyone feel unheard or dismissed.

According to Alaseyori, she discovered that many Nigerians were unhappy with her comments and felt that their concerns over the plight of the abducted victims were not being taken seriously.

“I did a video two days ago about the kidnapped children, touching on government, parastatals and every agency. But when I woke up yesterday, I found out that some well-meaning Nigerians were not happy about it, as I made them feel their voices are unheard,” she said.

The singer pleaded for forgiveness, particularly from mothers and families affected by the incident, insisting that she would never deliberately disregard their pain.

“You know me too well that I would never make you feel like that. Mothers, do not be offended. I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please, forgive me. I would never think like that. Pardon and forgive me,” she added.

Alaseyori had earlier said that Nigerians need to keep praying over recent insecurity issues, stressing that the government is doing all it can to ensure that peace is restored.

The kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has continued to generate concern among Nigerians, with many calling for intensified efforts to secure the release of the victims.

Agege Residents Cry Out As Alfa Nla Road Collapses

Residents and motorists have lamented the deteriorating condition of Alfa Nla Road in the Agege area of Lagos State and called for its urgent rehabilitation.

The condition of the road has caused persistent traffic congestion and hardship for road users.

The appeal followed concerns raised over the state of the road, particularly a badly damaged section that becomes flooded whenever it rains.

This also made movement difficult for motorists plying the route, which links the Pen Cinema and Oke-Koto areas of the community.

Residents told Punch correspondent that the road had remained in a poor condition for about three years without any intervention from the relevant authorities.

They noted that the situation had worsened during the rainy season as blocked drainage channels prevented rainwater from flowing freely.

A resident, who identified himself simply as Akeem, said motorists and residents had repeatedly appealed for the rehabilitation of the road without success.

According to him, the damaged section has become a major source of traffic congestion in the area, particularly during evening rush hours.

“The road has been like this for about three years. Once it starts raining, the water remains here because the drainage is completely blocked. Every day, motorists struggle to pass through this place,” he said.

Another resident, Bose Adeyemi, said the condition of the road often forced motorists to abandon the damaged lane and drive on the opposite side.

She said, “The traffic is usually terrible from around 6 p.m. Vehicles, especially commercial buses, are forced to use the other lane while facing oncoming vehicles. The other lane is now gradually getting damaged due to the pressure from the traffic.”

While Adeyemi disclosed this, Punch correspondent observed some buses already driving against traffic to avoid the damaged section of the road.

A commercial bus driver, Sulaimon Yusuf, said the poor condition of the road had increased vehicle maintenance costs.

He added that drivers were often compelled to slow down to avoid damaging their vehicles.

“You have to be very careful when driving through this road, especially when it rains. Some of the potholes are hidden under the water and can damage your vehicle if you are not familiar with the lane,” he said.

Residents blamed the worsening condition of the road on blocked drainage channels along the affected stretch.

According to them, the inability of rainwater to flow through the drains has accelerated the deterioration of the road and increased the risk of flooding.

“If you look at the side of the road, you will hardly believe there used to be a drainage there. It has been completely covered and now looks like an ordinary floor. This happened over time as the road continued to deteriorate,” another resident who did not want his name in print disclosed.

They urged the Agege Local Government and the Lagos State Government to intervene urgently before the road becomes completely impassable.

The spokesperson for the state Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Adesina Odunuga, could not be reached for comment on Tuesday as calls made to his telephone lines were not answered. A text message sent to him had yet to be replied to as of the time this report was filed.

Lagos Moves Underaged Beggars To Government Sheltering Facility

Underage children arrested during recent anti-begging operations across Lagos State have been transferred to government-run homes and shelters, where they

will receive care, protection and rehabilitation services.

Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development on Wednesday, hours after authorities apprehended 45 beggars,

including adults and minors, during enforcement operations in Oshodi, Agege and CMS.

According to Wahab, the children have been profiled and handed over to the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for onward placement in facilities

established by the state government.

“The underage children picked up statewide for begging on our roads have been properly profiled and handed over to the Ministry of Youth and Social Development

for onward placement in the homes and shelters provided by the State Government, where they will receive the necessary care, protection and support,” he

said.

The government had earlier announced the arrest of 45 beggars during separate operations across major commercial districts of Lagos.

The arrests included 22 persons picked up in Oshodi and Agege, as well as 23 others, comprising 14 adults and nine children, apprehended around the CMS

axis.

Wahab said adult beggars arrested during the exercise were handed over to relevant authorities for further action in line with existing laws and government

policies.

“The adult beggars are also being handed over to the appropriate authorities for further necessary action in line with existing laws and government policies,”

he added.

The latest operation forms part of a broader enforcement drive by the Lagos State Government aimed at addressing street begging, environmental violations

700 Widows, Vulnerable Residents Benefit From Free Medical Outreach In Idimu And Ikorodu

No fewer than 700 widows and vulnerable residents in Lagos State have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Primus Charity Foundation in the Idimu and Ikorodu areas of the state.

The foundation said the outreach, which was its second annual medical intervention programme, was aimed at improving access to healthcare services for underserved members of the community.

The exercise brought together healthcare professionals, volunteers, community leaders and partners who provided medical care and support to beneficiaries.

Speaking during the outreach, the President of the Foundation, Tomi Tomori, described the initiative as more than a medical exercise.

According to her, the programme was designed to demonstrate compassion and provide support for vulnerable members of society who often struggle to access healthcare services.

Tomori noted that many residents of low-income communities continue to battle preventable health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, chronic pain and emotional distress due to financial challenges and limited access to medical care.

“This outreach was created to bridge that gap. At Primus Charity Foundation, we strongly believe that access to basic healthcare should not be a privilege reserved for a few,” she said.

Beneficiaries received free medical consultations, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, counselling services, medications, health education and referrals for further medical attention where necessary.

The foundation also distributed food items to widows and other vulnerable participants as part of its humanitarian support efforts.

Tomori said the outreach reflected the foundation’s commitment to improving lives and expanding access to healthcare.

“What began as a vision to serve humanity is gradually becoming a movement of hope and impact,” she stated.

She commended the medical personnel, sponsors, volunteers, community leaders and partners whose contributions ensured the success of the programme.

Tomori also called on organisations and well-meaning individuals to partner with the foundation to promote healthier communities and extend healthcare support to more vulnerable people.

Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful in view of the rising cost of healthcare services in the country.

Access to affordable healthcare remains a challenge for many low-income and vulnerable Nigerians, particularly widows and the elderly.

In recent years, non-governmental organisations and charitable foundations have increasingly complemented government efforts by providing free medical outreach programmes, health screenings, medications and welfare support to underserved communities.

Such interventions help in the early detection and management of common health conditions while improving healthcare access for vulnerable groups.
