Tokunbo Wahab, Rhodes-Vivour Clash Over Waste Disposal In Lagos

A back-and-forth has ensued between the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, and the Labour Party Lagos State governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

This began after Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, issued a directive for the immediate scale-up of waste evacuation across the state following the recent buildup of refuse in some parts of the state.

“LAWMA, LASEPA, and the Ministry of Environment are currently working around the clock. We have deployed extra trucks and personnel to clear the backlogs across all affected neighbourhoods. You should already see progress on the streets, and we will not stop until our city is completely clean again,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Reacting, Rhodes-Vivour, who lost the 2023 election to Sanwo-Olu, described the governor’s directive as an admission of failure, not a solution.

Sharing on X, he stated that Lagosians do not need periodic emergency evacuations of mountains of refuse. “What they need is a functional waste management system that prevents waste from accumulating in the first place,” he said.

He lamented that for years, residents have endured overflowing dumps, uncollected refuse, blocked drainage channels, and worsening environmental conditions despite billions of naira allocated to environmental management.

“The fact that you now have to ‘direct an immediate scale-up’ after waste has already overwhelmed communities is an utter failure of leadership,” Rhodes-Vivour said.

Responding, Commissioner Wahab reminded Rhodes-Vivour of the humongous task Lagos faces in terms of waste collection.

He said Lagos generates about 13,000 tonnes of waste every day, adding that in May alone, LAWMA and PSP operators evacuated about 418,500 tonnes of waste across the state, averaging about 13,200 tonnes daily.

“That is not a small operation. It involves hundreds of PSP operators, public waste teams, transfer and disposal operations, street sweepers, enforcement teams, customer service staff, drivers, loaders, supervisors and monitoring officers working across a very large and difficult city,” Wahab said.

The commissioner further explained LAWMA’s efforts towards waste disposal, which he said had been scaled up, especially in blackspot areas.

Pushing back, Rhodes-Vivour demanded impact and not explanation, just as he accused Wahab of bigotry and demanded his resignation.

He said, “Mr. Wahab, Impact is felt, not explained in 1,578 words. Your plastic policy has failed. Your environmental policy, if one truly exists, has been ineffective. Your waste management policy has been an unmitigated disaster. The only area where you have consistently delivered is the demolition of the hard-earned properties and livelihoods of ordinary citizens. Not to mention your Bigotry and Gaslighting. You have lost the moral authority to remain in office. You should resign. Today.”

Displeased that Rhodes-Vivour called him a bigot, Wahab revealed that he had no interest in descending into the “mudslinging and distractions you appear to thrive on”, but is focused on supporting the efforts of the Lagos State Government to ensure the safety, well-being, and prosperity of Lagosians

He, however, called Rhodes-Vivour by his Igbo name, Chinedu, which was used against him during the 2023 election. Wahab then shared Rhodes-Vivour’s past social media posts, which promoted the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and also the defunct Biafra Republic

He concluded, “As for the labels and accusations, I will leave others to judge them on their merits. I have no intention of engaging in personal attacks or trading insults with a political nomad driven by ignorance and needless hatred. I wish you all the best.”

Lagos NDC Crisis Deepens As Both Naheem Balogun And Funso Doherty Claim Candidacy For 2027 Governorship Election

The controversy surrounding the Lagos state chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)  has deepened as two contenders for the governorship race in the state are now claiming to be the party’s authentic candidate for the 2027 general elections. A couple of days after Naheem Balogun,  assures his supporters that he remained the authentic governorship candidate of the party in Lagos, prominent politician, Funso Doherty, has accepted the nomination of the party as its candidate.

In an acceptance letter shared on his official X account on Friday, Doherty stressed humility, gratitude to the party, and a vision for inclusive leadership.

Attached images on his X post show him holding an NDC 2026 gubernatorial nomination form and a campaign poster declaring him the NDC flag bearer with the Yoruba slogan, “Ó TI YÁ”, meaning it is time for change.

“With profound humility, gratitude, and a clear sense of purpose, I accept our party’s nomination to serve as its candidate for Governor of Lagos State in 2027,” Doherty wrote.

“I am deeply grateful for the confidence our great party has placed in me and for our shared belief that Lagos deserves much better—inclusive leadership that works for everyone.

“The real work begins now. Together, we will build the Lagos that we know is possible. My friends, it’s time – O TI Ya!”

Last month, Doherty dumped the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the NDC, weeks after dumping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ADC.

According to him, the ADC is currently facing a development that has led to a division of the opposition coalition with some leaders moving to the NDC and some remaining in the ADC.

Doherty said he had hoped that the ADC would be the vehicle that would unite the opposition, adding that since that is no longer the case, “we must each individually make a decision as to whether to remain with the ADC or move to the NDC.”

Announcing his membership of the NDC, Doherty stated that he joined the party after due consultation, careful deliberation and prayerful reflection.

He described the NDC as the path that will enable the opposition to deliver the benefits of good governance to those to whom they are due – every citizen, without exception.

“The battle ahead remains formidable, but I invite you to join us on this exciting, though sometimes turbulent, journey to a brighter future that has been long-promised and that has so far proven elusive, but that is, by the grace of God, now imminent,” Doherty said.

However, Doherty’s nomination has pitched him against supporters of Naheem Balogun whom they regard as their mandated candidate. A couple of days ago, Naheem Balogun assured supporters that he remained the party’s authentic flag bearer for the 2027 election, dismissing reports suggesting that another candidate has emerged with the ticket.

Balogun gave the assurance while receiving party faithful and supporters who turned out to welcome him on his return from a short trip to the United States.

The NDC hopeful expressed appreciation for the show of support, describing the turnout as a source of encouragement and motivation.

He reiterated the need for calm among party members, insisting that he remains the duly recognised governorship candidate of the party.

“I urge all our supporters not to be distracted by rumours and misinformation. Remain calm, focused and steadfast. The mandate given to us by party members cannot be taken away through speculation and propaganda.

“I will continue to protect the interests of our supporters and the NDC faithful. I will not take any decision affecting our collective future without consulting stakeholders across Lagos State. This project belongs to the people, and together we will determine its direction,” he said.

Balogun thanked party members across the state’s local government areas for their continued support and sacrifices, describing their commitment as the foundation of the movement he represents.

As at the time of filing this report, the national organ of the party had not made any clear-cut statement as to who the real candidate of the party in Lagos is.

Lagos NDC Governorship Primary Controversy: ‘I Remain NDC Authentic Governorship Candidate' - Balogun Assures Supporters, Urges Calm

Amidst the internal tensions over the outcome of its governorship primary in Lagos state, with competing claims and allegations threatening to deepen divisions within the party , the Lagos State governorship candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Naheem Balogun, has assured supporters that he remains the party’s authentic flag bearer for the 2027 election, dismissing reports suggesting that another candidate has emerged with the ticket.

Balogun gave the assurance yesterday while receiving party faithful and supporters who turned out to welcome him on his return from a short trip to the United States.

He also reassured supporters of his commitment to pursuing the matter through legitimate party channels while safeguarding the interests of those who have stood by him.

The NDC has in recent weeks been embroiled in internal tensions over the outcome of its governorship primary, with competing claims and allegations threatening to deepen divisions within the party.

The party chieftain urged members to remain united and avoid actions capable of weakening the NDC ahead of future political contests.

Balogun’s grassroots influence and the public show of support are expected to intensify discussions over the party’s next steps as members await clarity on the governorship ticket.

Meanwhile, his return and the reception organised by supporters underscored his continued influence within sections of the NDC grassroots structure in Lagos State.

Agege APC Supporters Troop Out To Celebrate Outcome Of Assembly Primary Election

A support group within the All Progressives Congress, the Agbelebu Solidarity Forum, has staged a thank-you rally across Agege Local Government Area of Lagos State, expressing appreciation to party leaders while reaffirming support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

The group described event as a “Thank You Walk”. The event attracted party faithful, supporters and residents who trooped out in large numbers to celebrate the outcome of the recently concluded APC primary election in Agege Constituency I.

The organisers said the rally was convened to commend the Lagos State leadership of the party for what they termed a transparent and credible primary process that reflected the will of party members.

The procession kicked off from the Oniwaya axis of Agege and moved through key areas, including Ogba, before terminating at the APC State Secretariat located on Acme Road, Ikeja.

Participants, carrying banners and chanting solidarity songs, described the emergence of Gbenga Abiola, popularly known as “Agbelebu,” as the party’s candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly seat representing Agege Constituency I as a true reflection of grassroots democracy.

At the APC secretariat, members of the forum paid homage to party leaders, applauding their role in ensuring what they called a fair and transparent electoral process.

Speaking with journalists during the rally, Abiola expressed gratitude to the party leadership for upholding the outcome of the primary election, noting that it demonstrated a strong commitment to internal democracy.

“The leadership of our great party has shown respect for the wishes of members by standing by the true outcome of the primary election.”

He added that the rally was a symbolic gesture to appreciate the party’s leadership and reaffirm loyalty to its ideals.

Abiola said the support received from party leaders and members would help strengthen unity within the APC and position it for future electoral victories.

He pledged to collaborate with stakeholders, party faithful and residents of Agege Constituency I to advance the party’s programmes and deepen grassroots mobilisation.

The APC candidate also used the occasion to declare support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition, describing him as a leader who has continued to provide direction for both the party and the country.

According to him, members of the Agbelebu Solidarity Forum would mobilise support for Tinubu and other APC candidates in future elections.

He further reiterated his commitment to party discipline and pledged to contribute to the growth and development of the APC at all levels.

The rally concluded at the APC State Secretariat, where participants renewed their allegiance to the party and pledged continued support for its leadership ahead of upcoming political activities.

Our Protest Was Not Sponsored By Mudashiru Obasa - Aggrieved Lagos APC Aspirants

A coalition of aspirants in the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries has denounced what it described as a malicious and distracting attempt to link the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Dr. Mudashiru Obasa, to the peaceful protests staged last week over the party’s primaries.

In a strongly worded statement signed by prominent party figures and released to the press on Wednesday, June 10, the group insisted that the demonstration was a spontaneous expression of dissatisfaction by aspirants and their supporters across Lagos State.

The statement was signed by, among others, Seye Oladejo (Mushin), Kolawole Taiwo (Ajeromi-Ifelodun), Noheem Adams (Eti-Osa), Stephen Ogundipe (Oshodi), Apata Samuel (Somolu), David Doherty (Amuwo-Odofin), Ganiyu Egunjobi (Agege) and Ganiyu Ayuba (Alimosho).

The aspirants stressed that the protest was driven by genuine grievances and not by any sponsorship.

“To suggest that thousands of committed APC members and supporters required sponsorship before voicing their frustrations is insulting to their intelligence and dismissive of their legitimate concerns,” the statement declared.

According to the group, the protesters raised issues of alleged manipulation, distortion of results, cheating, and disregard for party guidelines during the primaries. These concerns, they argued, are neither isolated nor imaginary but reflect the frustrations of party faithful who invested time, resources, and political capital in the democratic process.

The signatories accused unnamed individuals of attempting to scapegoat Speaker Obasa in order to trivialise the complaints and divert attention from the need for justice, reconciliation and unity within the APC.

“Rather than addressing the issues at the heart of the protest, some individuals have chosen the convenient path of scapegoating. Such futile attempts are clearly designed to shift public attention away from the need for fairness and party cohesion,” they noted.

Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, the aspirants urged party leaders to focus on resolving the outstanding issues from the primaries. They emphasised that the APC’s strength lies in its ability to accommodate differing opinions, correct internal shortcomings, and emerge stronger through dialogue and fairness.

“The concerns of aggrieved aspirants and their supporters deserve attention, not diversion. Addressing these grievances sincerely and urgently will strengthen confidence in the party’s internal democratic processes and enable us to approach the forthcoming elections with a united and formidable front,” the statement concluded.

2027 Governorship Race: Lagos African Action Congress Unveils Manifesto, Promises To Take Back Lagos Pledges 500,000 Jobs, Infrastructure

The governorship candidate of the African Action Congress in Lagos State, Engineer Oluwadamola Adesoca Sol-Nuyi, has in his manifesto pledged to create over 500,000 jobs and improve infrastructure across the state ahead of the 2027 election.

The AAC candidate, whose campaign is themed “FAMILY FIRST • PEOPLE FIRST • LAGOS FIRST” with the slogan “TAKE BACK LAGOS,” said his administration would focus on improving the lives of residents through economic reforms, housing, healthcare, education and transportation.

He made this known while delivering his speech before party members and supporters during an unveiling held in Ikorodu, Lagos.

With the hall filled to the brim and the party leadership in the state backing the candidate, Adesoca promised to take back what belongs to Lagosians from those who have mismanaged the state over the years.

In the preamble to the manifesto titled “The Adesoca Manifesto: Family First Agenda for a New Lagos,” Adesoca said: “Lagos is blessed with extraordinary human and economic resources. Yet millions of our people struggle daily with unemployment, poor housing, insecurity, inadequate healthcare, traffic congestion, environmental degradation, and declining living standards.”

He added, the purpose of government is not merely to administer power but to improve lives.

According to him, the first pillar of his programme is an economic revolution aimed at creating jobs and supporting businesses.

The manifesto stated, “Create over 500,000 direct and indirect jobs,” adding that the administration would launch the Lagos Enterprise Development Fund for SMEs, provide low-interest loans to small businesses, establish industrial clusters in Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry, Ikeja and Lagos East, and support technology and innovation enterprises.

V On education, Adesoca promised to upgrade public schools, recruit qualified teachers and establish four Special Universities of Sports in Ikorodu, Epe, Badagry and Surulere.

The manifesto said the initiative is aimed at positioning Lagos as “Africa’s Sports Capital.”

Adesoca also pledged to tackle housing challenges through a Right to Housing Policy, stating that housing is a human right.

Under the policy, his administration pledged to end arbitrary and forced evictions, expand affordable housing schemes and ensure the protection and redevelopment of communities such as Makoko, Oworonshoki, Maidan-Orile and riverine settlements.

On infrastructure, the AAC candidate promised to reconstruct roads, improve drainage systems, expand ferry transportation and upgrade rural and riverine infrastructure.

“My administration will be guided by one principle: FAMILY FIRST. A government that protects families, creates opportunities, develops communities, and restores hope.

“Together, we can build a state that works for all and not just a privileged few. Together, we can restore hope. Together, we can create a government that truly belongs to the people,” he added.

The party’s chairman, Olanrewaju Samson, rallied members to support the candidate, describing him as a credible alternative in Lagos politics.

How I Escaped Mob Attack At Ladipo Market - Lagos APC Chieftain Joe Igbokwe

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Joe Igbokwe  has escaped a mob attack in the popular Ladipo Market, Lagos State.

Igbokwe narrated the incident in a video he posted on his official Facebook page on Saturday.

The APC Chieftain said he was in the market to get some vehicle spare parts to fix his car when some youths identified him and angrily mobilised to attack him.

Igbokwe said, when the mobs were moving close to his vehicle, he decided to take cover in his friend’s shop before the leadership of the market came to his rescue.

He said, “Yesterday, I went to Ladipo Market to get some spare parts for my vehicle. When I went looking for the parts, some people started calling my name, pointing fingers at me. I ignored them and went in search of what I wanted to get.

“I got the parts and I went to my vehicle to fix it, before I knew it, the Ladipo boys started gathering, they were shouting, “this is the Igbokwe, this is the Igbokwe, so you can come this market”?

“I initially ignored them but they started coming and coming, so I moved away to my friend’s shop. My friend gathered the leadership of the market,, and then when I came out, people gathered and started saying all manner of things but I didn’t say anything, I just drove away.

“I came to Facebook this morning and saw a post that Joe Igbokwe was beaten. I was not beaten. This is me. There are things you cannot do here, you can go to the Southeast and be doing all the rubbish you have been doing there but not in Lagos.

“I pray that it doesn’t happen again. I know what to do”.

He continued: “There was no mob attack. Nobody touched my body. It was just that they were making noise and people tried to caution them.

“Maybe politics. Maybe because I am an APC man. Maybe because I don’t like the politics they play. Make friends with major ethnic groups, and that is how you can rule Nigeria, but it is not forthcoming.”

Igbokwe added that some people often view his comments and advice as antagonistic despite his intentions.

“There are things we saw during the first civil war. If you advise them, you will become an enemy. You become a saboteur,” he said.

Joe Igbokwe is a prominent, decades-long political figure in Lagos, best known for his vocal role as the spokesperson for the ruling party and as a cabinet appointee under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

APC Eti-Osa Assembly Primary: Stakeholders Warn Against Reversing The Outcome Of Election

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Eti-Osa Constituency I have appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the party’s national leadership to intervene in what they described as efforts to overturn the outcome of the constituency’s House of Assembly primary election, warning that any attempt to reverse the outcome of the election would affect the chances of the party in the 2027 general elections.

The appeal was made on Thursday by a coalition of party leaders, traditional institutions, youth and women groups, community organisations and residents, who insisted that the incumbent lawmaker, Noheem Adams, won the primaries by a decisive margin and should be recognised as the party’s candidate.

Addressing a press conference, the leader of the group, Alhaji Owolabi Yisa, called on Tinubu, APC national leaders and the Lagos State APC chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, to ensure that the outcome of the primaries was respected.

According to the stakeholders, Adams secured 7,638 votes across the constituency, while his closest challenger, Saheed Bankole, polled 1,225 votes, giving the incumbent a margin of 6,413 votes.

“The will of the people was clearly expressed. This was not a narrow victory, and it was not a disputed mandate. It was an overwhelming endorsement by party members across Eti-Osa Constituency I,” the group said.

The stakeholders described the result as a clear reflection of grassroots support for Adams, whom they said had built strong ties across the constituency through community engagement, youth empowerment initiatives, educational support programmes and legislative representation.

“The people know him, trust him and have repeatedly demonstrated confidence in him,” they said.

The group warned that any attempt to reverse the outcome of the primaries could create divisions within the party and undermine its electoral prospects.

They argued that decisions perceived as contrary to the wishes of party members had contributed to internal crises and electoral setbacks in previous election cycles.

According to the stakeholders, disregarding the outcome of the primaries would risk weakening grassroots structures and demoralising party supporters.

Earlier, supporters of Adams staged a protest at the Eleganza Toll Gate, demanding that the outcome of the primaries be upheld.

Speaking during the demonstration, Alhaji Surajudeen Abejamu said the protest was aimed at drawing attention to what he described as the denial of the mandate given to Adams by party members.

“We are here on behalf of the primary votes we cast for Nojeem Babatunde Adams.

“He has been in the House since 2017, and he is the only person who has been working assiduously, especially at this last dispensation.

“This is a man who has acted like a senator to us. He has acted on behalf of the government. When we have any problems, you always signal him; he is here.

“When you are in need of the government, you signal him, and he will come. At all times, there is nothing we have here as a problem that you don’t see his impact,” he said.

Another supporter, Lukman Abiodun, said the protest was intended to draw the attention of party leaders to what he described as the wishes of voters in the constituency.

“I am a leader here. Here we voted, and Honourable Nojeem won his election.

“Our movement is basing its call on the fact that Nojeem Adams was the people’s choice and he won the primaries.

“We are seeking and calling the attention of President Bola Tinubu. We are calling on the national chairman of the great party, APC, and the Lagos State governor, including the state chairman of our party, Ojelabi, to look into our requests, to give us our mandates.

“Nojeem Adams was being voted for in Etiosa 1, and he won the election. He’s the people’s choice,” he said.

Stop The Interloping Distractions From Kogi State, Lagos Group Cautions James Faleke

The Concerned Lagos People’s Assembly has called on the lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, to concentrate on his responsibilities in Lagos and reduce his involvement in political activities in Kogi State.

The group in a statement signed by it’s President Abayomi Odukale expressed concerns over what it described as Faleke’s increasing engagement in the political affairs of Kogi despite holding an electoral mandate in Lagos.

He said people of Ikeja elected Faleke to represent their interests in the National Assembly and expected his full attention to issues affecting the constituency and Lagos State.

Odukale mentioned that the group respects Faleke’s personal ties and heritage in Kogi State, but stressed that his primary responsibility remains to the constituents who elected him.

He argued that sustained involvement in political matters outside Lagos could raise questions about priorities and accountability, stressing that Lagos faces several development challenges requiring focused representation.

The group also expressed concern that political engagements beyond Lagos could create unnecessary distractions and affect party cohesion within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“We believe Lagos deserves undivided advocacy and commitment from its elected representatives,” Odukale said.

They appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to encourage Faleke to prioritise his mandate in Lagos and continue supporting efforts aimed at advancing the state’s development.

Reaffirming its commitment to the “Lagos-First Agenda,” the group said it would continue to advocate accountable leadership, transparency and policies that place the interests of Lagos residents at the forefront.

The assembly maintained that its position was not motivated by hostility but by a desire to strengthen democratic accountability and ensure effective representation for the people of Ikeja Federal Constituency.

God Directed Me To Support Tinubu’s 2027 Re-election Bid – Nollywood Star Actor Yul Edochie

Nollywood star actor Yul Edochie has revealed that his support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections is based on divine direction.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, Edochie said God has always shown him who to support during elections and continues to direct him toward Tinubu.

He stated that he intends to stand by the president because of what he described as clear instruction from God.

“Because I want to support him and God — I have said it before in an interview — God has always shown me who to support, and he keeps showing me Tinubu, and I am going to stand by him”, he said.

When asked if God is involved in elections, Edochie affirmed that God is involved in his own decisions and has shown him where to go.

“I don’t know if he is involved on your side, but he is involved in mine; he showed me where to go,” he said.

Edochie remains one of the most vocal celebrity supporters of Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

His political stance has repeatedly attracted criticism on social media.

Lagos APC Crisis Deepens As Tinubu’s Daughter Alleges Rigging, Threatens Protest And Demands Scrapping Of Justice Forum, Mandate Movement

The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, deepened as the Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, on Wednesday, called for the disbandment of the influential Justice Forum and Mandate Movement groups over alleged manipulation of the party’s primaries.

Tinubu-Ojo, daughter of President Bola Tinubu, specifically faulted the conduct of the House of Representatives primary for Mushin Constituency I, Agege Constituency II, Ojokoro, alleging that the mandate of aspirants in the constituencies were stolen and handed to “a non-winner.”

Speaking during the weekly meeting of market leaders and stakeholders at the Iyaloja-General’s office in Alausa, Ikeja, she condemned what she described as political shenanigans and warned against attempts to subvert the will of party members.
She also decried the alleged marginalisation of traders by political office holders despite their contributions to the growth and electoral success of the APC in Lagos State.

The Iyaloja General cited the cases of Mutiu Olaide Oladeebo in Agege Constituency II, Seye Oladejo in Mushin Federal Constituency, and Olotu Emmanuel Ojo in Ojokoro, insisting that the aspirants won their respective primaries convincingly before moves were allegedly made to alter the outcomes.

She said: “We have to cry out now, Let the APC cancel Justice and Mandate Forums because our governroship candidate belongs to the Justice Forum. Everybody is now joking the Justice Forum because that is where our incoming governor’s belongs to. Are we not Lagosians?

“When he becomes the governor, he will not be the governor for APC alone, he has to balance it. Even when you are the governor, you have to lead both your friends and foes. It is saddening that when a Mandate Forum aspirant wins, he jumps to Justice Forum, it is saddening. It is a way of telling us that hard work doesn’t pay in politics.

“Something must be done on that because it is important. We are sure that Seye Oladejo won in Mushin Federal Constituency and Olotu Emmanuel Ojo in Ojokoro won in Ojoroko with a landslide.

“Infact, we decided to calm down and see what they will do about it because we are ready to protest. We know they won the election and their mandate should not be given to somebody else.”

She urged APC leaders at the state and national levels to immediately investigate the disputed primaries and ensure that justice prevailed before final ratification of the results.

She warned that failure to address the grievances could worsen internal tensions within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Tinubu-Ojo declared that market women across Lagos remained committed to supporting the governorship ambition of Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat and other APC candidates nationwide, but stressed that traders deserved recognition and political appointments in return for their loyalty and sacrifices.

She also urged President Bola Tinubu to acknowledge traders as critical stakeholders in national development.

Meanwhile, aggrieved APC members and supporters in Mushin threatened mass protests if the alleged mandate of Oladejo was not restored.

The protesters accused leaders of the Justice Forum bloc of attempting to impose candidates and undermine internal democracy within the party.

“We know who won the election and the mandate should not be stolen. We are ready to protest if justice is not done,” one of the protesters said.

ADC 2027: Adio Appoints Sulaiman As Campaign DG For Eti-Osa II Race

The campaign organisation of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for Eti-Osa Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly election, Ayodele Adio, has appointed veteran political mobiliser, Balogun Sulaiman Olajide, as its Director-General ahead of the forthcoming poll.

The appointment, announced on Monday, is seen as part of efforts by the opposition to strengthen its campaign structure and challenge the dominance of the ruling party in the constituency.

Speaking after his inauguration, Sulaiman thanked the candidate and members of the campaign team for the confidence placed in him, pledging to deploy his political experience and grassroots network toward securing victory at the election.

He said the campaign was committed to making history in the constituency by delivering it to the opposition for the first time since the country returned to democratic governance in 1999.

According to him, the campaign would focus on issues affecting residents, including youth empowerment, infrastructural development, and improved representation.

“We are determined to make history in Eti-Osa Constituency II. This is a movement driven by the people, and by the grace of God and the support of residents, we will deliver this constituency to the opposition for the first time since 1999.”

Adio described the appointment as a strategic decision aimed at boosting the campaign’s organisational strength and grassroots mobilisation across Eti-Osa Constituency II.

The ADC candidate expressed confidence in Sulaiman’s leadership ability and understanding of the political landscape in the constituency, while urging party supporters and volunteers to cooperate fully with the new Director-General.

“I have absolute confidence in the ability of Balogun Sulaiman Olajide to lead this campaign effectively. He is experienced, committed, and understands the political terrain of Eti-Osa. I urge all our supporters, party faithful, and volunteers to give him the maximum cooperation and support needed to achieve our collective goal.”

Sulaiman is regarded as an influential figure within political circles in Eti-Osa and Lagos State, having previously held several positions in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Ward Secretary, Local Government Secretary, and Party Leader. His supporters believe his experience in grassroots mobilisation could prove significant for the campaign.

Lagos Deputy Speaker Wins APC Assembly Ticket

In what appears to be a twist of fate, as embattled Desmond Eliot is losing the APC ticket to return to the Lagos State House of Assembly, over his role in the attempted impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the house and the enthronement of the deputy speaker, Mojisola Meranda, the deputy speaker has won the APC House of Assembly primary for Apapa Constituency I.

She polled 2,926 votes to defeat three other candidates in the exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The primaries, held at Ijora Oloye Nursery and Primary School, Ijora, on Wednesday, began around 1:00 pm and was peaceful despite a large turnout.

Delegates and agents had arrived from 9:00 am, while DSS, police and NSCDC personnel provided security at the venue.

Four candidates contested the sole ticket: Meranda, Esan Adedotun, Mike Egbayelo and Elizabeth Toluwalope.

Meranda arrived at the venue around 12:45 pm to cheers from supporters. She said, “I thank you all for the support; it is massive.”

The APC youth leader in Ijora, Adams Aremu, told the News Agency of Nigeria that Meranda enjoyed strong grassroots support and described the primaries as a “victory day” for her.

He added that her projects across the constituency cut across wards and had attracted widespread community backing, including support for small businesses.

Another party executive, Joseph Layode, said residents had spoken through their votes and praised her performance in office. He said, “She could become the next Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.”

A delegate, Folasade Ojomo, said continuity was best for the constituency and backed Meranda’s leadership.

In a separate result from an earlier exercise held across five wards in Apapa Constituency I, Meranda also polled 6,062 votes against her closest rival, Ayo Vaughan, who got 1,385 votes.

Meranda dedicated the victory to members of the party in her constituency.

She said in a statement on Thursday, “To the leaders of our great party, the dedicated delegates, my political family, and the good people of Apapa Constituency I, I express my deepest gratitude for the overwhelming show of love, trust, and confidence reposed in me at the just concluded APC primaries.

“This victory is not mine alone; it belongs to every person who believes in our shared vision of progress, unity, and purposeful representation. Your support humbles me and strengthens my resolve to continue serving with diligence, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of our constituency.”

She also pledged to continue working for the interest of her constituents.

She said, “I do not take this renewed mandate for granted, and by the grace of God, I will continue to work tirelessly for the peace, progress, and prosperity of our people.”

It would be recalled that the attempted impeachment of the speaker of the house, Mudashiru Obasa, which led to the brief enthronement of Mojisola Meranda, that made Desmond Eliot, who has now lost his come back bid, to fall out of favour with Gbajabiamila, his estranged godfather. Addressing stakeholders in Surulere recently, Gbajabiamila said he nearly lost his job in the presidency due to Elliot’s “role” in the impeachment saga.

Gbajabiamila, who served as speaker of the house of representatives from 2019 to 2023, also said he had asked Elliot to publicly dissociate himself from the impeachment plot — a directive he said the lawmaker never obeyed.

Elliot, however, said he thought the plot to impeach Obasa had the backing of President Tinubu, saying he was taken aback by Gbajabiamila’s comments, whom he referred to as “my daddy” during a recent interview on TVC.
