How Police Officers Knocked Down A Pregnant Woman While Raiding Motorcyclists In Ajegunle

A pregnant woman, Zainab Bakare, is receiving medical treatment after officers attached to the Nigeria Police Force, Ajeromi Division, allegedly rammed into the motorcycle conveying her during a raid on commercial motorcyclists along Layinka Street in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 18.

According to residents, the officers had positioned their patrol vehicle at a junction in the community, reportedly lying in wait to apprehend commercial motorcyclists plying the route.

During the operation, a motorcycle carrying Bakare approached the junction. In the process, the police minibus allegedly knocked down the motorcycle, causing both the rider and the passenger to fall.

A resident, Moshood Oshunfurewa, who witnessed the incident, said the police vehicle struck the motorcycle from a short distance.

“The incident happened at Layinka Street, by KD Bread, close to Arumoh Street. We were under the LED streetlight at the junction when we saw the officers hit the motorcycle from a short distance. The pregnant woman fell and started crying in pain. We rushed to help her, while the officers allegedly took the motorcycle to the police station,” he said.

Speaking on the incident, Bakare said she was returning from a hospital where her sister was in labour when the incident occurred.

“I was coming from the hospital where my sister was in labour. When we got to the T-junction, the motorcycle rider slowed down. Suddenly, a minibus hit us and we were knocked to the ground,” she recounted.

Bakare said she sustained injuries to her arm and leg and was thrown into severe distress over the safety of her pregnancy.

“The police did not show concern when it happened. They were about to take the motorcycle away when residents challenged them because of my condition. That was when they came back,” she alleged.

In a video now going viral, Bakare was seen crying and writhing in pain from the injuries she sustained during the incident.

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it took more than three hours to stabilise the pregnant woman, adding that the conduct of some officers had become a source of concern in the community.

He also noted that Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area is not among the local governments covered by the Lagos State Transport Law restricting commercial motorcycle operations in 10 local government areas and 15 local council development areas.

“While residents support the state’s restrictions, enforcement should not come at the cost of endangering lives,” he said.

Navy Kicks Off Operation AWKWARD 2026 To Protect Lagos Waters

The Western Naval Command (WNC) of the Nigerian Navy has kicked off a strategic exercise codenamed Operation AWKWARD 2026. This is to prevent unauthorised activities around the harbours and back channels within the area of the command.

The exercise is coming at a time when concerns have been raised about activities of stowaways who usually snuck into foreign vessels around Lagos Anchorage, as well as illicit substance smugglers.

Inaugurating the exercise onboard Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) KADA, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), WNC, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, said it was designed to strengthen harbour protection capabilities, enhance operational readiness, and improve response to asymmetric and unconventional maritime threats.

He emphasised inter-unit coordination, strict adherence to standard operating procedures, and the integration of lessons learned into future operational planning.

According to him, boats would mainly be deployed for the exercise, explaining that while vessels will deploy their inflatable boats, gunboats from units under the command like Takwa Bay and Badagry, would link up mid-channel to participate.

“Nigeria continues to attract partner nations seeking to train with the Nigerian Navy due to the high level of professionalism demonstrated by our personnel. This is further reflected in the Navy’s recent ranking among the top 22 in the world. Many countries are particularly interested in training alongside our special forces.

The exercise also improves the proficiency of our personnel in equipment handling and seamanship, contributing to a more secure maritime environment where economic activities can thrive.

“Although the exercise is primarily a harbour defence operation, many of the drills are applicable at sea. Activities will not extend beyond the harbour limits but will cover the channels and terminals within the harbour area, including up to the fairway buoy, over the next two days,” he explained.

Murders Of Prince Sheriff Isola And Prince Ademola Akinloye: Police Finally Arrest Two Principal Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two prime suspects over the murders of two princes of Ajiran community,

Sheriff Isola Salami and Ademola Akinloye.

The Commissioner of Police (CP) Olohundare Jimoh, confirmed the arrest of the suspects identified as Sefiu Fatai alias Fabo, 40, and Yusuf Ismail also

known as Baraka, during a press conference.

The Ajiran community earlier endorsed police investigation into the murders that occurred in February 2023 and August 2024, accusing a businessman, Alhaji

Hammed Akanbi, of being behind the murders.

Jimoh said the suspects were arrested on January 24 and February 6, adding that they confessed that they were allegedly hired by Akanbi, 38.

He said the police had invited Akanbi and even searched for him but met his absence, noting that the allegations against him were weighty.

Declaring him wanted, Jimoh said Akanbi should report himself to the police for questioning.

The CP explained that investigations showed that the killings were carried out by a gang armed with local pistols, axes and machetes.

“On April 18, 2023, about 8am., the suspects attacked Sherif Salami Ishola at an isolated building, where he was shot severally and died on the spot. The

suspects subsequently fled the scene,” he said.

He added that the same gang carried out the second murder on August 26, 2024, when Prince Damilola Akinloye was shot multiple times at Eti-Osa.

Further investigations, he said, implicated Akanbi, described as the Chief Executive Officer, Amtachek and Amrok Markham Company in the murders.

The CP alleged that Akanbi paid the suspects N2 million, with N500,000 given to each of the principal actors after the first murder.

He said other benefits, including opportunities to travel abroad were promised to the gang of killers, adding that five of them had earlier been charged

to court, following their alleged implication in other crimes, and three were at large.

“No stone will be left unturned in ensuring that those connected with these heinous crimes are arrested and brought to justice,” he said.

Deaths Of Nollywood Production Team Mates In Lekki: Police Arrest Two Suspects

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the deaths of two Nollywood production crew members found lifeless inside a parked vehicle at a movie location in Lekki, Lagos.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abimbola Adebisi, told newsmen that the suspect was a member of the production team who allegedly delivered food to the deceased before they were discovered unresponsive.

“One suspect has been arrested. The suspect was the one who delivered food to the victims in the vehicle. Investigation is still ongoing,” she said.

The victims — lighting director Ekemini “GeeTee” Imeh and his associate, Ayodeji Walter Odediran — were found dead on Saturday, February 7, within the premises of Evercare Hospital Lekki, which was being used as a filming location.

According to a police source, the two crew members arrived early at the set to install lighting equipment ahead of shooting. After completing the setup, they reportedly entered a tinted Nissan vehicle parked within the premises to rest while awaiting further production activities for a film said to be directed by former Big Brother Naija housemate, Boma.

“At about 11am, a production staff member delivered breakfast to them inside the vehicle. The air-conditioning was on, and both men appeared relaxed at the time. Subsequent calls to their phones went unanswered. After filming wrapped up around 8pm, they were found lifeless in the vehicle,” the source said.

The source added that both men were reportedly foaming at the mouth, with one showing blood stains around the nose and lips.

Another police source disclosed that the matter was initially reported at the Maroko Police Station, while CCTV footage from the premises is being reviewed as part of ongoing investigations.

“The bodies have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy and toxicology examinations,” the source added.

Adebisi confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further probe, noting that investigators are working to determine the exact cause of death.

Until his death, Imeh was the Chief Executive Officer of a lighting company and was known for his work on major productions, including King of Boys, as well as music videos for artistes such as Davido.

The incident comes days after gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele, popularly known as Segun Praise, and three of his crew members were found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State.

How Police Officers In Ikorodu Pointed Their Guns At Us And Threatened To Shoot Before Extorting N100,000 From Us - Auto Dealer

A Lagos-based auto dealer, Quadri Balogun, has alleged that some policemen in the Ikorodu area of the state pointed guns at him and a friend and threatened to shoot them before extorting N100,000.

Balogun recounted the incident in a telephone interview with PUNCH Metro.

According to him, the officers, who were riding in a minibus, intercepted his vehicle in the Itamaga area of Ikorodu while he was driving with a friend.

He said he presented his vehicle documents when stopped, but the officers allegedly refused to inspect them and instead ordered both occupants out of the car.

Balogun claimed that the policemen assaulted them after they stepped out and forced his friend into their minibus, while he was made to remain in his own vehicle.

“They drove us to the back of LASUSTECH. My friends who were expecting me began calling my phone, and when I picked up and explained what was happening, the officers accused me of trying to mobilise people,” he said.

“They later took us to a bushy and isolated area, pointed guns at us and threatened to kill us, saying nothing would happen.”

He further alleged that the officers seized his phone and wristwatch and accused him of taking their photographs.

“They demanded N5 million before they would release us,” he added.

Balogun said after prolonged negotiations, the officers reduced the demand to N100,000, which he and his friend had to source from family members.

According to him, they were taken to a Point of Sale operator and compelled to withdraw the money, which the officers allegedly collected before releasing them.

“They insisted on N100,000 after we told them we didn’t have money. We had to borrow from relatives and withdraw it through a PoS. That was when they let us go,” he said.

The auto dealer described the experience as traumatic.

“Since the incident, I haven’t been myself. I was scared when they pointed guns at us,” he added.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, urged the victims to formally report the matter to the police complaints unit for investigation.

In an SMS sent to the PUNCH Metro, the PPRO wrote, “09111111151 CRU. Contact the Complaints Response Unit on this.”

Incidents of alleged police extortion have remained a recurring complaint among residents of the state.

On January 6, PUNCH Metro reported that a Lagos-based plumber accused officers of extorting N70,000 from him during a stop-and-search operation near the Otedola Bridge area.

Similarly, on January 29, a mechanical engineer alleged that officers attached to the Area J Command in Ajah extorted N250,000 from him under similar circumstances.

How Husband And Wife Faked Their Own Kidnap In Mushin, Demanding N10 Million Ransom From Family And Friends

A Lagos-based couple, identified simply as Fred and Goodness, have been arrested for allegedly staging their own kidnap and extorting N10m in ransom from their families and friends.

It was gathered that the couple faked the abduction on January 7 to solicit funds for the husband, who intended to return to the United States due to a lack of financial support.

A police source who spoke to newsmen on Thursday said the suspects contacted relatives on both sides of the family and claimed they had been kidnapped while demanding ransom.

The source added that the families raised N10m within three days, believing the money was meant to secure their release.

“The couple faked their kidnapping, thereby calling on friends and families for contributions towards the ransom payment. And what happened was, according to them, the husband wanted to travel back to the US, and he needed some money, but their sponsors were not forthcoming, so they planned it together that maybe by the time they do that, they’ll be able to raise some money.”

Speaking on their arrest, another police source in the command said the couple arranged a location at a school in Cappa in the Mushin area of Lagos, where the ransom was to be delivered.

“Operatives monitoring the area noticed the woman entering the premises alone, while the man arrived separately moments later. However, suspicion was raised when both suspects later emerged together carrying a bag.

“The operatives stopped them, searched the bag, and discovered the ransom money, prompting their immediate arrest. The wife said she was the one who encouraged the husband to make them plot the kidnap.”

The suspects were subsequently handed over to the police, where investigations confirmed that the incident was a case of self-kidnap.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Addebisi, confirmed the incident.

She said, “The couple will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

30-Year Old Woman Arrested In Agege For Allegedly Stabbing Her Sister To Death Over Domestic Issues

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly stabbing her younger sister to death during a domestic dispute.

Security consultant and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, announced her arrest on Thursday in a post he shared on his official X account.

Makama, quoting sources disclosed that the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at about 8:20 p.m. at No. 22 Anikulapo Street, Pen Cinema, Agege.

He said: “According to the source, one Ikechukwu Uka reported that two sisters, Mary Ibekwe, 30, and Favour Uka, 18, had a disagreement which degenerated into a physical fight.

“In the course of the altercation, Mary Ibekwe allegedly stabbed her younger sister with a knife on the left side of her chest,” the source said.

Makama said the police added that the victim was immediately rescued and rushed to Blue Cross Hospital, Ogba, for medical treatment, where she was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

A team of detectives was said to have visited the scene as well as the hospital, where the corpse was inspected and photographed.

“The corpse was later evacuated and deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, for autopsy,” the source said.

The suspect has been arrested and is currently in custody, while investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

The Lagos State Police Command has assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted accordingly.

Police service Commission Extends Recruitment Exercise Due To Low Turnout From Lagos, Others

The Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force have extended the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables by two weeks following low application numbers from some states, including Lagos.

On November 26, 2025, President Bola Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency, ordering the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces to recruit additional personnel to tackle rising insecurity across the country.

The application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, was initially scheduled to close on January 25, 2026, but will now close on February 8, 2026, following the extension.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the PSC’s Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Mr Torty Kalu, the extension followed the receipt of over 400,000 applications nationwide, alongside observed disparities in state participation.

He noted that states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, while Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra recorded notably lower submissions.

“The PSC and NPF announce a two-week extension for the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 constables.

“This decision follows the receipt of over 400,000 applications and a review showing significant disparities in state participation. While some states like Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna have high application numbers, states such as Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra have notably lower submissions,” the statement partly read.

Kalu said the decision was aimed at ensuring equitable representation across the country, urging eligible Nigerians, particularly those from states with low application figures, to apply through the official recruitment portal.

He also called on state governments, local government councils, sociocultural organisations, religious bodies, community leaders and other stakeholders to mobilise and sensitise eligible persons within their juroisdictions to apply before the new deadline.

“The extension aims to ensure equitable representation nationwide. All eligible Nigerians, particularly from the above-mentioned states with fewer applications, are strongly encouraged to apply via the official portal.

“State governments, local government councils, sociocultural organisations, religious bodies, community leaders and other stakeholders are strongly encouraged to mobilise and sensitise eligible citizens within their jurisdictions to apply before the new deadline,” he said.

Police Arrest Man Who Sent Bomb Threat Messages To Schools In Ikeja

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Kosisochukwu Ogumbo of the Okota area for allegedly sending bomb threat messages to two schools in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area (GRA) last week.

The Command also confirmed the arrest of eight additional members of a notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate, alongside the recovery of four operational vehicles allegedly used by the gang to rob unsuspecting residents across Lagos.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, disclosed this during a briefing with journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

According to him, at about 4:00 p.m. on January 20, 2026, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer of the affected schools separately reported to the Ikeja Divisional Police Headquarters that they had received threatening WhatsApp messages from the same unidentified phone number.

The messages claimed that explosive devices had been planted within the school premises.

Following the reports, security operatives were immediately deployed to the area, including personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and other tactical squads, to secure the schools and assess the threat.

He said, “After a thorough sweep of the premises, no explosive device was found and the schools were immediately declared safe. Police investigations led to the arrest of Kosiso Chukwuem-Nenyem, a resident of Okota, identified as the sender of the threat messages.”

The Police boss added that although the suspect claimed he lost his phone in November 2025, police investigations revealed he continued to receive calls from family members during the period the threats were issued. The SIM card was also recovered from him.

“This individual acted alone and deliberately attempted to cause panic among parents and school authorities. He will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law,” the CP stated.

In other developments, the CP said the latest arrests of eight more members of ‘one chance’ bring the total number of suspects apprehended in connection with the syndicate to 21, adding that the gang had been fully dismantled, and that the breakthrough was a result of sustained intelligence-led policing and cooperation from members of the public.

He described the gang as a “double-edged” criminal network, explaining that victims who complied were robbed and released, while those who resisted were detained and their families contacted for ransom under the guise of kidnapping.

“They are a double-edged sword criminal gang. If you cooperate with them, they take what you have and let you go. If you resist, they detain you and contact your family to demand ransom,” he said.

The commissioner added that the suspects also took victims to a shrine in the Idimu area of the state, where they were forced to swear oaths, while some were deceived with promises of dollar investment schemes.

“All the suspects have confessed to the crime. Some victims have also come forward to identify them. Investigation is ongoing, and they will be prosecuted accordingly,” he added

Among the 25 recovered vehicles linked to different offenses, including robbery, fraud, and theft, was a Toyota Camry 2007 model with registration number ABJ 582 LB, reportedly stolen in the early hours of January 25, 2026, after the owner left the engine running while entering a supermarket.

The suspect, Jaffon Godswill, was subsequently arrested, and the vehicle was recovered the following day during a stop-and-search operation in the area.

He added that operatives of the command intercepted three suspected vandals who removed 154 electronic reflective markers from the Third Mainland Bridge during patrol operations.

In addition, the police boss announced the strengthening of the School Protection Squad, established by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to cover Lagos East, West, and Central districts.

Headquarters are located at Ikorodu (East), Idimu (West), and Lion Building, Lagos Island (Central).

The CP also disclosed the deployment of Eko-Strike Force, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and a newly established Nightlife Patrol Squad to secure entertainment hubs, hotels, and recreational centres across Lagos.

“The entire Lagos State is safe. Residents, investors, and visitors are encouraged to go about their lawful activities without fear”, he said.

He commended officers and men of the Command for their dedication and reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and investments in Lagos State.

Attacks Scare: Why We Deployed Officers To Schools In Ikeja - Lagos CP

Following threats of attacks on schools in Ikeja by yet-to-be-identified persons, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the deployment of police personnel, on a permanent basis, to the affected Grange School and Greensprings School (Anthony Campus).

The management of the affected schools, located in Ikeja, had ordered the temporary closure of the schools after receiving security threats via WhatsApp messages from an unknown number.

Announcing the temporary closure, the Head of Grange School, Richard McMahon, in a letter addressed to parents, said the school would not open due to a “security-related concern.”

The letter dated January 21, 2026, read, “Earlier this evening, the school received a security-related concern. While there is no immediate danger, we have chosen to act responsibly by taking the matter seriously and putting all necessary safety measures in place.

“The school will use tomorrow (Thursday) to follow up fully with the appropriate authorities and receive official guidance.

“The safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families remain our highest priority, and this temporary closure allows us to ensure that all protocols are properly observed.”

The school management said it would monitor developments, in conjunction with security agencies, to determine the reopening of the school.

On its part, the authorities of the Anthony Campus of Greensprings School also asked students who turned up for school on Thursday to return home while it assessed the security situation.

An official of the school confirmed that the assessment examinations scheduled for Thursday afternoon were aborted due to the closure directive.

The official added that it was uncertain how long the closure of the campus would last before normal academic activities resumed.

It was also gathered that a nearby school, Avi-Cenna International School, Ikeja, was considering a temporary closure.

However, in a statement by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the command said it had neutralised the threat to the schools within Ikeja.

The police declared the schools safe for continued academic and administrative activities after conducting a security sweep of the premises.

The statement read, “The Lagos State Police Command has once again demonstrated its commitment to the protection of lives and property following a swift, intelligence-led response to a security threat directed at some prominent private schools in Ikeja.

“On Tuesday, January 21, 2026, at about 4:00 pm, the Human Resources Manager and the Chief Security Officer of both schools, situated within Ikeja, independently reported at the Ikeja Divisional Headquarters that they received distress WhatsApp messages from the same unknown number.”

The statement also conveyed an order by the Commissioner of Police for the commencement of investigations to “trace, identify, and apprehend the sender(s) of the threat messages with a view to bringing them to justice in accordance with the law.”

It added that “combined teams of police personnel have been strategically deployed permanently to the affected schools to ensure round-the-clock safety of students, staff, and school facilities.”

The police detailed measures taken to address the threat, including the mobilisation of personnel, such as experts from the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear unit, the Rapid Response Squad, and other tactical teams, to the school premises for on-the-spot assessment and security reinforcement.

“A painstaking and comprehensive sweep of the entire school environment, including classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and surrounding premises, was conducted by the EOD-CBRN experts to rule out the presence of Improvised Explosive Devices or any other dangerous or suspicious materials.

“The operation yielded no explosive or hazardous devices, and the schools were consequently declared safe for continued academic and administrative activities. Combined teams of police personnel have been strategically deployed, on a permanent basis, to the affected schools to ensure round-the-clock safety of students, staff, and school facilities.”

The police, however, urged residents of Lagos State to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

“The Lagos State Police Command assures parents, guardians, school authorities, and the general public that the command remains proactive, responsive, and fully committed to maintaining peace, safety, and public order across the state,” the statement further read.

In the same vein, the Association of Private Educators in Nigeria urged schools to heighten security protocols and remain vigilant.

The association, however, said it had received assurances from the state government regarding safety in schools.

The statement read, “APEN has been in contact with Lagos State Government officials responsible for security regarding the safety of our schools. We have been assured that the situation surrounding the threat received by two schools is under control.

“Nevertheless, I recommend that we further strengthen and heighten security protocols across all our schools and remain vigilant.

“We will continue to monitor developments and keep APEN schools up to date with any information.”

Police Burst Kidnapping Syndicate, Arrest 13 Kidnappers At A Shrine In Idimu

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a den disguised as a shrine and operated by suspected kidnappers in the Idimu area of the state.

Operatives of the command also arrested no fewer than 13 suspects in connection with the discovery.

The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, who led journalists on a tour of the premises located along Pipeline Road in the community on Wednesday, said the suspects were members of a notorious “one-chance” and kidnapping syndicate operating in the state.

He said the arrests followed intelligence-led stop-and-search operations carried out by police operatives in the early hours of Sunday.

According to the CP, three suspects were initially intercepted at Bode Thomas in the Surulere area of the state while operating in a vehicle allegedly used to pick up unsuspecting members of the public, especially at night and in the early hours of the morning.

He said, “The syndicate usually lured victims under the pretence of selling dollars or offering fake investment schemes that promised to double money before taking them to the shrine.

“This gang is led by one Demola Adelua, who has been operating for over eight years. He controls about six operational teams across Lagos State.

“If victims cooperate and they succeed in defrauding them, they release them. But if the victim is too smart and refuses to cooperate, they bring the person here, lock them inside this room they call a shrine, and then call their relatives to demand ransom.”

He stressed that the state did not have rampant cases of conventional kidnapping but noted that such “one-chance” criminal gangs often escalated to kidnapping when victims refused to submit to fraud.

The police boss also noted that the gang targeted worshippers going to mosques and churches early in the morning, exploiting limited movement and low police presence at such hours.

He said, “Only two formal complaints were initially received, which prompted the command to establish tactical stop-and-search points in the identified axis.

“The three suspects arrested led us to this operational base. We conducted an on-the-spot search and recovered weapons used for their criminal activities.

“Following the discovery, operatives raided the surrounding area and arrested additional members of the gang, bringing the total number of suspects arrested in the operation to 14,” he added.

The CP disclosed that the gang operated with at least six vehicles, including a Toyota Sienna, which was used to pick victims from bus stops and other locations.

He, however, added that efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining vehicles.

During the tour, one of the suspects, Rotimi Adilola, admitted that the premises served as an operational base for the group.

Asked who owned the shrine, another suspect, Amos Ogunna, said he was responsible for the place, describing it as similar to a church.

“This is my shrine. He is my friend. I knew him through my brother, and I stayed with him in Ijegun. We are local 419. My colleagues bring customers with a motor. Sometimes people pay N100,000, sometimes N200,000,” he said.

Another suspect, Emmanuel Njoku, who said he was arrested at Bode Thomas, narrated how the victims were lured.

He said, “We go there to carry people. We tell them we are going to Lagos. Somebody will say she has dollars. Anybody who is greedy will ask questions. From there, we interview the person and bring them here.”

Njoku claimed that those who refused to cooperate were sometimes returned after being given transport fare.

The suspect, who claimed to be about 60 years old, admitted he had been involved in the scheme for about eight years in Lagos.

A female suspect, who identified herself as Tina Willy from Akwa Ibom State, told journalists that she became involved after the death of her husband. She also confirmed that some victims had previously been fully kidnapped after refusing to cooperate.

She said, “I am not working with them steadily. My husband died, and I had no money. I met my brother, who introduced me to the business, and that was how I followed them. There was a woman they carried before. She did not play along, and they called her family to pay ransom.”

Another suspect admitted he had earlier been imprisoned for a fraud-related offence involving N300,000, adding that he spent four months in custody.

Jimoh assured Lagos residents that the command was on top of the security situation, adding that investigations would be extended to mop up all members of the syndicate, including those coming from neighbouring states to commit crimes in Lagos.

He also announced the strengthening of the state’s security architecture with the deployment of tactical teams, including an undercover “walk-and-operate” squad, a coast drive strike force, and the soon-to-be-launched anti-crime patrol and community protection squad.

“I want to assure Lagosians to go about their lawful businesses without fear. Full deployment has been carried out across the nooks and crannies of the state,” the CP added.

Airport Police Arrest 20-Year Old Romance Fraudster For Defrauding Unsuspecting Women Of Over N1 Billion

The Airport Police Command, Lagos, has arrested a 20-year-old man, Essien Emmanuel Akpama, accused of defrauding multiple victims in the United States of over N1 billion (more than $1 million) through a celebrity romance and fraud scheme.
In a statement signed by ASP Mohammed Adeola, Police Public Relations Officer of the Airport Police Command, the force said the arrest followed months of intelligence-led surveillance.
“The Nigeria Police Force, Airport Police Command, in its sustained efforts to combat transnational crimes and prevent the use of Nigerian airports as escape routes for criminal elements, has arrested a notorious celebrity scam and romance fraud suspect,” the statement read.
“The suspect, Essien Emmanuel Akpama, was arrested on 5th January, 2026, by operatives of the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Airport Police Command while attempting to board a flight out of Lagos State.”
Investigations revealed that Akpama relocated from Calabar, Cross River State, to Lagos on February 23, 2024, from where he coordinated several fraudulent schemes.
One of the scams involved a 47-year-old woman in the US, who was deceived into transferring $1 million under the pretext of purchasing property in Florida for an orphanage.
“The suspect, through a celebrity scam modus operandi, deceived a 47-year-old female victim in the United States into transferring one million US dollars under the pretext of purchasing property in Florida for an orphanage,” the statement said.
The funds were solicited via a cryptocurrency scheme called “BullRun 2.0,” formerly known as “4 Way Mirror Money.”
It was also revealed that Akpama also defrauded a 70-year-old US woman of N25,709,400 (about $18,000) through purchases of gift cards, high-end mobile phones, and computer equipment shipped to Nigeria under his direction.
“Further investigations revealed that the suspect also defrauded another 70-year-old female victim in the United States of a total sum of N25,709,400, equivalent to $18,000.
“The fraud was perpetrated through the purchase of gift cards, high-end mobile devices, and computer equipment, which were shipped to Nigeria at the suspect’s direction,” the statement added.
Recovered items include a MacBook Pro 14-inch, an iPhone 17 Pro Max, two Google Pixel 10 Pro XL devices, and one Google Pixel 10 Pro, collectively valued at N8,141,367.
The statement further added that, “The suspect reportedly posed as a 60-year-old orthopaedic surgeon working with the United Nations in Nigeria to convince victims that the devices were needed for secure communications.”
Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, Mnips, PhD, reiterated the importance of intelligence-driven operations in curbing crime.
“The Command will continue to deploy intelligence-driven operations to detect, disrupt, and dismantle criminal networks operating within and around Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem,” she said.
The case has been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force Special Fraud Unit for further investigation, and the suspect will be arraigned in court upon completion of the inquiry.

Why We Deployed Officers Along The Coastal Road - Lagos CP

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, has assured residents and commuters of enhanced security and smooth traffic on the new coastal road, following the deployment of personnel.

Speaking with journalists on Wednesday during a Show of Force exercise on Victoria Island, Jimoh said that the coastal road was opened to ease traffic congestion and reduce the hardship faced by commuters travelling to Lekki and other parts of Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the police command immediately deployed officers to the route to ensure effective traffic control and the safety of lives and property.

According to him, the absence of adequate security deployment at the initial opening of the road had led to traffic violations, including one-way driving, which caused gridlock and accidents.

The commissioner said the situation had been brought under control following the deployment of over 30 patrol teams, each made up of six armed police officers, as well as about 20 tactical squads stationed along the road.

“From the commencement of the opening of this road till now, there has been no threat of crime and no record of serious or fatal accidents; compliance by road users has significantly improved,” he said.

The police boss noted that the police personnel had been placed on a 24-hour duty along the route to sustain safety and order.

“The entire area, including adjoining locations such as recreational centres, beaches and event venues, is now safe for lawful activities without fear of harassment or criminal attack,” he said.

Jimoh urged residents, commuters and estate users to continue to make use of the coastal road, assuring them of its security and accessibility.

He said the police would sustain the deployment as construction work on the road continues and as normal work activities resume.

Police Intercept Illegal Firearm In Stop-And-Search Operation At Ishashi

The Lagos State Police Command has said the recovery of a locally made firearm in the Ishashi area underscores its continued reliance on stop-and-search operations as part of broader efforts to prevent crime across the state.

In a statement posted on its official X handle, the command disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Crime Unit attached to the Ishashi Division recovered a cut-to-size double-barrel firearm and two cartridges during a patrol on Tuesday at about 10:45 p.m.

The police said the recovery was made in the course of a routine stop-and-search operation carried out within the division’s jurisdiction, adding that the operation was led by the Divisional Police Officer.

Reaffirming its position on preventive policing, the command said such measures remain central to disrupting criminal activity before it occurs and strengthening public safety.

The statement read, “Stop-and-search remains a proactive crime-prevention measure. On December 23, 2025, at about 10:45 p.m., operatives of the Anti-Crime Unit of Ishashi Division, led by the DPO, recovered a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel firearm with two cartridges during a patrol and stop-and-search operation within the division’s jurisdiction.”

The command assured residents that patrols and intelligence-led operations would be sustained across Lagos State as part of efforts to maintain security and deter criminal activities.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has said recent intelligence-led operations across several states resulted in the arrest of 22 suspects and the recovery of firearms, vehicles, motorcycles, illicit drugs and other items linked to criminal activities.

In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the operations were carried out by operatives of the Force Special Tactical Squad and targeted offences ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to banditry, cattle rustling, impersonation and drug trafficking.

Hundeyin said six firearms were recovered during the operations, including “one LAR rifle, one pump-action gun, one AK-49 rifle, one AK-47 rifle and one SMG rifle, alongside two rounds of live ammunition”. He added that a total of 45 other exhibits were also recovered, comprising vehicles, motorcycles, illicit drugs and items suspected to have been used in committing various crimes.

According to the police, one of the key operations took place along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway, where operatives intercepted a J5 vehicle conveying 13 brand-new motorcycles, weapons and other incriminating materials. Hundeyin said further investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year-old suspect, Luke Ifeanyi, in connection with alleged armed robbery and economic sabotage.

He also disclosed that, in a separate operation within the Federal Capital Territory, operatives arrested a Kuje Custodial Centre escapee, Ayo Abiodun, who is suspected to have carried out a violent robbery involving a serving Nigerian Army officer.

The police spokesperson said another suspect, 40-year-old Yusuf Shehu, was arrested with a stolen tricycle and was found to be impersonating a police officer. “A police mobile uniform and a police identity card were recovered from him,” Hundeyin said.

He further stated that operatives intercepted a vehicle conveying large quantities of leaves suspected to be cannabis and other controlled substances during routine patrols.

In Edo State, Hundeyin said four suspects were arrested for unlawful possession of prohibited firearms and alleged violent attacks on a community. He added that in Lagos and Ogun states, two suspects linked to a car-snatching syndicate were also apprehended.

The police said investigations into the various cases were ongoing, while efforts were being intensified to dismantle criminal networks operating across the country.

How Lagos Wife Faked Own Kidnap To Extort N2.5 Million From Husband

A 26-year-old woman, Misturah, is presently cooling off in the custody of the Lagos state police command. Misturah was arrested for allegedly staging her own abduction and extorting N2.5m from her husband under the guise of a kidnapping.

Lagos Today Extra! gathered that the incident was reported to the police on November 24 when a lawyer, Hamzat (surname withheld), contacted the police to report that his brother’s wife had been kidnapped by unknown armed men.

A source in the Lagos State Police Command, who spoke with newsmen, said the supposed abductors demanded a ransom of N10m for Misturah’s release.

According to the source, the amount was later reduced to N3m during negotiations, after which a sum of N2.5m was eventually paid.

“Following the report of her supposed kidnapping, the command registered the incident for investigation.

“During ransom negotiations, the kidnappers reduced their demand to N3m. Subsequently, a sum of N2.5m was paid; however, the kidnappers initially refused to release the hostage.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, a team of police officers was deployed to track and rescue the victim.

“Before operatives could locate the suspected criminals’ hideout, the complainant contacted the squad and reported that the victim had been released and reunited with her family,” the source narrated.

The police source further stated that Misturah was subsequently invited to the command headquarters the following day, where she was debriefed and her statement recorded.

In her account, she reportedly claimed she was kidnapped by six armed men who arrived in a silver Toyota Venza and took her to an undisclosed location.

She also alleged that her iPhone 12 Pro Max was seized and that she was released only after the payment of N2.5m.

She further told detectives that the ransom money was first paid into her bank account before it was handed over to the kidnappers, insisting that the entire sum was delivered to them.

The police source, however, noted that further investigation raised suspicions, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old man, identified simply as Daniel, on December 3, in Ede, Osun State.

The source said, “A SIM card used to register the WhatsApp account through which ransom negotiations were conducted was recovered from Adedamola.

“During interrogation, he stated that Misturah was an online acquaintance of about two years and that she requested the use of his SIM card to register a WhatsApp account.

“He stated that during the registration process, a one-time password was sent to him, which he forwarded to Misturah, enabling her to activate the WhatsApp account.

“He further stated that she informed him that the phone number would be used to resolve some personal issues.

“He claimed that after she concluded her use of the number, she deactivated the WhatsApp account and later informed him.

“However, he later began receiving multiple messages on the same line, which eventually caused WhatsApp to log him out of his own account.

“Upon contacting Misturah, she told him that she had used the account to settle issues between herself and her husband, one Ridwan, who is based in South Africa.”

Confronted with Daniel’s confession after a police invitation, Misturah was said to have admitted to faking her kidnapping to extort money from her husband.

It was further gathered that findings also led to the recovery of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which she earlier claimed was with the kidnappers.

“The phone was recovered from one Yusuf Sodiq, 34, to whom she allegedly sold it for N380,000. She warned the buyer not to insert any SIM card into the device until a later time,” the source added.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident.

“Investigations are ongoing, and appropriate charges will be filed at the conclusion of the probe,” she said.

Nobody Died, No Injuries Recorded In Ejigbo Hoodlums Attack - Police

The Lagos State Police Command has refuted media reports suggesting that a death and injuries were recorded when hoodlums invaded Ajebo community, near Agbowa in the Ikosi-Ejirin Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

In a statement on Friday, the Lagos police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the reports were not only untrue and misleading but highly mischievous.

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to categorically set the record straight and correct the mischievous, untrue, and misleading report by ‘Newtelegraphng’ alleging that Ajebo community was invaded by armed hoodlums who destroyed properties, injured residents, and fired gunshots indiscriminately,” Adebisi said.

She explained that the incidents that occurred are a land dispute between two families within the Ajebo community that led to chaos and confusion in the village.

Adebisi stated that upon receiving the report, the police joint intervention teams comprising the Tactical Squads, the PMF Anti-Riots Police personnel, conventional police personnel from Agbowa Division, Area N Command, and other special Police units from the Lagos Police Command Headquarters as well as others stationed at Agbowa were immediately deployed to the location.

According to her, normalcy was promptly restored, and the people of the community continued to go about their normal business and other activities of livelihood.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed a prompt intervention and investigation into the incident.

Adebisi said preliminary investigation revealed that the disturbance and clashes within the village stemmed from a land dispute between two contending families, and not an attack by gunmen against the community.

“No life was lost and no injuries were inflicted on anyone or the people of the village before and during the clashes before normalcy was restored and is currently being sustained,” she clarified.

“The Command further wishes to reaffirm that there was no firing of any firearm or guns during the incident, contrary to the claims circulated in the report.

“No death or injury was also recorded, and there was no invasion of the community by any armed group from anywhere.

“The detachments of Police Officers and other tactical Squads intervened and acted swiftly, professionally, and immediately restored peace and tranquility throughout the community. Peace has since returned to the area.”

She added that the leadership of the two parties involved in the land dispute has been identified and served police invitations to report for investigation at the office of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, immediately.

They have also been strongly warned to remain peaceful and that the police will not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law on troublemakers.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh, has implored and cautioned members of the public against spreading misinformation, and urged the writer of the story to desist from publishing reports that are incorrect, misleading, and capable of causing unnecessary fear and panic.

He has also stressed the need for responsible reporting for the benefit of the public, while reassuring residents of the affected community, and Lagos State in general, of the command’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace, security, and order across Lagos State at all times.

Why We Stopped Egungun Festival In Oregun - Police

The Lagos State Police Command has stopped plans for an unapproved Egungun festival in Oregun and arrested twelve suspects linked to posters and social media publications warning residents against free movement in the area.

According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, the suspects, alleged to be acting under the name “Oje Parapo of Oregun”, were apprehended after circulating handbills that restricted people’s freedom of movement, expression, and human dignity, actions the police say were capable of inciting fear and disturbing public order.

Following the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, ordered the immediate suspension of the festival. He said the event posed a threat to public safety and could lead to a breach of the peace.

According to the Command, the publications had already generated tension among residents, prompting swift intervention. “No group should take the law into their hands or restrict the movement of any Lagosian at any time,” the police warned, stressing that the fundamental rights of Lagosians would be fully protected.

The Command said its assessment showed that the planned festival had created widespread apprehension across Oregon and surrounding areas, necessitating a decisive halt to forestall a breakdown of law and order. It vowed that no cultural event or gathering that could heighten tension or endanger lives would be allowed to be held in the state.

A similar incident was recorded on November 23 in Mafoluku, Oshodi, where handbills announcing movement restrictions were circulated. Police operatives from Makinde Division moved in promptly, arresting twelve suspects who are now under investigation and will be prosecuted upon completion of enquiries.

Reaffirming the suspension, CP Jimoh directed the Oje Parapo group to desist from any attempt to proceed with the festival, saying security for such an event could not be guaranteed. He noted that the fear already created among residents was unacceptable and warned that anyone attempting to undermine public peace would face the full weight of the law.

The Command urged Lagos residents to continue their lawful activities without fear, assuring them of sustained protection of life and property.
