Stool Of Olu Of Epe: Lagos Warns Impersonators

The Lagos State Government has issued a stern warning to individuals parading themselves as Oba-Elect to the throne of the Olu of Epe Kingdom following the demise of His Royal Majesty, Oba Shefiu Adewale, who joined his ancestors on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, the State Government called the attention of the general public, especially residents of Epe and environs, to the fact that no official approval has been granted to any individual to be recognised as the Olu of Epe, hence it is illegal to accord anyone such respect.

The Commissioner emphasised that the process of selection and installation of Traditional Rulers in Lagos State is governed by established legal and administrative procedures, which has not begun in this case.

Mr. Robert, therefore, advised Lagosians to disregard claims of legitimacy by this set of individuals and to refrain from engaging or giving them any traditional or official recognition.

While informing that the security operatives in the State have been directed to avoid breakdown of law and order in Epe, and to also carry out proper investigation to arrest and prosecute impersonators to the stool in line with the Lagos State Law of Obas and Chiefs, he said the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu remains committed to upholding due process and ensuring peace and order in the State.

Prominent Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, and government representatives gathered in Osogbo, Osun State, to promote harmony and justice at a major public da’wah programme themed “Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) and Peace Among Kings on the Throne in Nigeria.”

The well-attended event, hosted by the Federation of Ahlus-Sunnah Organisations of Nigeria (FASON), featured the West Africa President of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah, Dr. Abdullahi Bala Lau, who urged Nigerians to refrain from abusing clerics, traditional rulers, and political leaders on social media and other platforms. Lagos Intensifies HIV Prevention Efforts With Inclusive Outreach To Hearing, Visually Impaired Persons

In a determined move to promote inclusive healthcare and curb the spread and stigma associated with HIV and AIDS, the Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), has organised a two-day sensitisation campaign specifically targeted at persons with hearing and visual impairments.

The sensitisation outreach, which was held from July 22 to 23, 2025, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Alausa-Ikeja, underscores LSACA’s commitment to adopting inclusive strategies in HIV prevention, public awareness, and stigma reduction among vulnerable and often overlooked populations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of LSACA, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s dedication to ensuring that no one is left behind in the management and control of HIV and AIDS in the state.

“Inclusion is not an act of charity; it is an act of justice,” Dr. Animashaun stated, commending the administration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for its unwavering commitment to equity and social justice under the THEMES Plus development agenda.

She further emphasised that people with disabilities, particularly the hearing and visually impaired, often face systemic barriers in accessing health information and services, increasing their risk of HIV infection and exposure to stigma.

Dr. Animashaun explained that the outreach was thoughtfully designed to educate participants on practical HIV prevention methods, address stigma and discrimination, and ensure that HIV-related messaging is fully accessible to those with hearing and visual impairments.

“This programme is not just about sharing information,” she said. “It is about empowering a community to become active participants and advocates in the HIV response. We are committed to achieving zero new infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths in Lagos State. Reaching people with disabilities is essential to this goal”, she said.

Reiterating the inclusive governance approach of the present administration, Dr. Animashaun revealed that the state government has translated key Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials into braille and has provided sign language interpreters to ensure effective dissemination of vital HIV prevention and management information.

She concluded by assuring the public that LSACA remains resolute in its mission to expand access to life-saving HIV services, strengthen health systems, and ensure that no individual or community is left behind in the state’s ongoing HIV and AIDS response.

Sanwo-Olu Launches Produce For Lagos ₦500b Offtake Guarantee Fund

Sanwo-Olu Launches Produce for Lagos ₦500b Offtake Guarantee Fund

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has launched the Produce for Lagos Programme and the ₦500billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, an initiative of the State Government aimed at boosting food security, reducing imports, and enhancing agricultural productivity across Nigeria.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said the programme and the fund reflect his administration's commitment to achieving food security, inclusive prosperity, and sustainable growth not just for Lagos State but for Nigeria.

Speaking during the launching of the programme at the Lagos House, Ikeja, Governor Sanwo-Olu said Lagos is Nigeria’s largest food market, consuming over 50 per cent of the food traded in the South-West with a food economy valued at ₦16.14 trillion.

The Governor expressed optimism that the programme would provide guaranteed off-take contracts, access to financing, and logistics support, connecting Lagosians directly with Lagos’s dynamic food economy.

He said the initiative, which is a partnership between government and the private sector, will boost agricultural production.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, also announced and commissioned the deployment of a fleet of 150 cold and dry trucks, the largest of its kind, in partnership with the private sector.

He stressed further that the initiative "will boost agricultural production and reduce reliance on informal and uncoordinated supply channels, create jobs for our youth and increase economic returns for all ecosystem stakeholders.

"It will be implemented through the Lagos Food Systems Infrastructure Company (LAFSINCO) and supported by key Special Purpose Vehicles like the Lagos Bulk Trading Company, Ekolog (Eko Logistics), and the Produce for Lagos Fund.

"This ₦500 Billion Offtake Guarantee Fund will provide working capital for bulk traders, finance for logistics operators, liquidity for aggregators, and credit support for food producers across Nigeria. It is a demonstration of our understanding that our food economy cannot thrive on policy alone – it requires financing.

"This fund is not a subsidy; it is an investment vehicle that will catalyse private capital, stabilise food prices, and de-risk agricultural operations across the value chain. What we are doing here is creating a whole new agricultural ecosystem, one that rises to meet the demands of today and of tomorrow—combining policy, financing, infrastructure, and data.”

Speaking during the event, Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Mohammed Bago of Niger State, Agbu Kefas of Taraba and Usman Ododo of Kogi commended Governor Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Government for the bold initiative on food security.

The governors, whose states are expected to be major beneficiaries of the Produce for Lagos Programme and ₦500 billion Offtake Guarantee Fund, expressed readiness to partner with Lagos State in the areas of comparative advantages in boosting food security, not only in Lagos but in Nigeria.

The Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, stated this while inspecting vehicles provided for the Monitoring and Enforcement Unit of the Ministry to boost monitoring of compliance with physical and environmental regulations in government estates.

According to him “the sustainability of all our estates is a task we take seriously and the provision of these vehicles for patrol of Lagos State Government estates is a deliberate action to prevent deterioration as a result of deliberate infractions by residents of government estates”.

He stated that the allottees of government estates are required to observe strict adherence to physical planning laws and obey all laws as regards safety and environmental sustainability. He further reminded residents of government estates that “The obligations of allottees are clearly stated in the letters of allocation and other subsequent documents shared afterwards, towards ensuring total compliance to sustain the infrastructural values of the estates”.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Housing, Engr. Sanwo-Olu Launches Wee Policy Roadmap To Break Barriers Against Women Potentials

In line with his administration's commitment to break the barriers hindering the realisation of women’s potential, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unveiled the Lagos State Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) Policy Roadmap.

The WEE Policy Roadmap launched at Muson Centre in Lagos is developed by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation as a strategic, forward-thinking framework designed to address the systemic challenges faced by womenfolk.

Speaking during the launching of the policy roadmap document, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the initiative reflects his administration’s unwavering commitment to gender equity and inclusive economic growth.

Governor Sanwo-Olu promised that his administration will ensure that the WEE Policy Roadmap is not just a policy on paper but a living instrument that transforms lives across Lagos.

The Governor assured that his government will continue to work collaboratively with all state ministries, partners, the private sector, and civil society to ensure the successful implementation of the policy roadmap.

He said: "The Lagos State WEE Policy Roadmap, developed by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, is a strategic, forward-thinking framework designed to address these systemic challenges. This roadmap aligns not only with our state’s developmental agenda but also with national policy frameworks and global commitments such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

"The development of this roadmap was underpinned by a robust stakeholder engagement process. From government ministries, departments, and agencies, including the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Ministry of Tertiary Education, and Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, to non-governmental organisations, private sector players, community leaders, and women’s groups across the state, including women with disabilities, we ensured that no voice was left unheard.

"This participatory approach helped shape a contextual and inclusive understanding of who a woman is in Lagos State: a woman is not only defined by her biology but also by her social, cultural, and economic realities. Her aspirations and challenges, from youth to old age, must be central to the policies we design.

"This roadmap is not just a document; it is a strategic tool for unlocking the full potential of the women of Lagos State. Empowering women economically does not only lift individual households; it strengthens our communities, grows our economy, and secures a prosperous future for generations to come.

"I urge every stakeholder to come together with purpose and conviction. Through true collaboration, we will shape a Lagos that stands as a beacon of inclusion, equity, and economic empowerment—a city where every woman is not only welcomed but actively empowered to realise her full potential and lead the way to lasting progress.”

Speaking further, Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed that the roadmap seeks to harness opportunities in agriculture, entrepreneurship, the traditional labour market, emerging industries, education and skill acquisition.

"In agriculture, we aim to increase women’s access to digital tools, e-commerce platforms, and targeted financing to grow agribusinesses and connect them to broader markets.

"In entrepreneurship, the roadmap recommends designing gender-friendly financial services, simplifying access to capital, and strengthening mentorship networks.

"For women in the traditional labour market, we plan to improve working conditions, enforce labour laws, promote family-friendly policies, and expand digital tools that ease access to market information.”

Speaking earlier, Lagos State First Lady, Dr (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat, said the policy roadmap is a bold step in addressing challenges facing women in Nigeria.

Dr Sanwo-Olu said the policy roadmap, if fully implemented, will empower women. She said domestication of the policy is very important and also urged women to stay focused.

She disclosed that the roadmap would break down gender stereotypes that inhibit women’s participation in high-growth and non-traditional industries.

“This roadmap offers a well-defined strategy to address the systemic challenges limiting women's participation in the economy, from limited access to finance and skills to gender-based constraints in both traditional and emerging sectors," she said.

The meeting, which was done virtually, was part of the continued effort to foster career development and academic advancement amongst Officers of the State Public Service.

Declaring the session open, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Olubusola A. Abidakun welcomed members of the Board and described the meeting as another significant milestone in the ongoing commitment of the State Government to build a competent and knowledge-driven workforce.

Speaking during the opening remarks, Mrs. Abidakun recalled that the first phase of the 2025 CPMB meeting, held earlier in the year, was a follow-up to the virtual meeting of the Board held the previous year. She stated that the meeting’s primary purpose was to consider staff applications for further studies for the 2025/2026 academic session, which was in alignment with extant rules and civil service regulations.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the Ministry has painstakingly collated 3,730 applications for further studies from 64 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) across the State. She emphasised the need for the Board to discharge its responsibilities with fairness, objectivity, and a clear commitment to the continued transformation of the State Public Service.

“The decisions we make here today must reflect justice and equity, and be targeted at advancing the knowledge base, productivity, and efficiency of our public servants,” she added.

Mrs. Abidakun expressed her gratitude to members of the Board for their continued support and collaboration, and urged them to approach the deliberations with diligence and a vision of a globally competitive public service.

The Centralised Personnel Management Board is a strategic platform for vetting and approving public servants' requests for further academic pursuits, in line with the capacity-building mandate of the Lagos State Government.

My Commitment To Environmental Sustainability Remains Unwavering - Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed that his commitment to environmental sustainability remains unwavering as the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation are evident all around.

The Governor made this known during the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA) special Tree Planting exercise in commemoration of his 60th birthday held at the setback along Cargo Terminal along International Airport Road, Ikeja, adding that environmental sustainability is essential to Lagos as a state with a rapidly growing population and urban landscape.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Dr. Tajudeen Omobolaji Gaji, said Tree Planting is one of the simplest yet powerful actions to combat climate change, improve air quality, as well as create a healthier environment for generations to come.

He explained that the exercise goes beyond celebration but is a reaffirmation of the collective commitment to sustainable environmental protection and the future of the state, saying the exercise is an impactful way to protect the environment.

"As your Governor, I remain committed to advancing initiatives that safeguard our environment and combat climate change from our urban greening programmes to renewable energy and climate adaptation projects," he added.

MG stated further that every tree planted today will help cool the city, improve the quality of the air residents breathe and also reduce the risk of flooding on the streets, stressing that it is also a gift to the future, one that our children and grandchildren will be thankful for.

He commended the LJLA Fellows for leadership and dedication initiatives, adding that the trees, like the seeds of leadership they are nurturing, will grow strong, tall, and enduring, standing as living monuments to the Lagos of tomorrow.

Samwo-Olu said the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy represents the leaders who understand that true progress is measured not just by economic growth but by sustainability and impact.

He recalled that the academy was named in honour of late Alhaji Lateef Jakande for being a man of vision and service, adding that the initiative will beautifully reflect his values, foresight, inclusiveness and the courage to plant what others will one day harvest.

According to him, “it is fitting that these young leaders have chosen an activity that not only honours my life but also contributes meaningfully to the future of our state.”

The Governor emphasised that true change requires collective ownership; as such, urging Lagosians to join the movement to plant a tree, care for it, and watch it grow as a symbol of their contribution to the shared future.

Ibeju Lekki LGA Gets Facelift From Lagos State Government

A new administrative building, purpose built legislative council chamber and a standard interlocking road were some of the projects recently inaugurated by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Wednesday.
The multi-storey administrative building, named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was rebuilt and delivered by the council chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Olowa. It succeeds the old council secretariat, which was razed by arsonists during the October 2020 protests against police brutality.
Sanwo-Olu also performed the groundbreaking for the construction of Citrus Gardens— a housing project the council initiated in collaboration with private developers.
The occasion marked a new chapter in the council’s efforts to reorganise its administrative structures, following the destruction of its headquarters in the wake of violent protests.
Sanwo-Olu said the projects underscored the council chairman’s commitment to inclusive development and responsive governance at the grassroots.
The development, the Governor said, reflected the resilient spirit of the council to bounce back from the setbacks it suffered from arson attacks. He said the progress marked the power of purposeful and transformational leadership that had been driving the progress of the State.
He said: “It is with a great delight that I commission and hand over these impactful projects to the good people of Ibeju Lekki. These projects underscore our commitment to inclusive development and responsive governance at the grassroots level. This moment reflects the progress inspired by the transformative impact of our THEMES Plus development agenda. This is the power of purposeful and transformational leadership that is driving Lagos State forward.
“Grassroots development is central to our vision for a Greater Lagos. The projects being unveiled today are a collaborative efforts of the Government, development partners and the resilient people of this community. The newly completed administrative building will restore and enhance operational efficiency of the council, just as it will improve staff productivity. The well-furnished legislative building complements the business of the local government for more greater impact.”
Sanwo-Olu said the projects centred around jobs creation and broadening the council’s internally generated revenue base, stressing that the projects would promote orderly urban development in the community.
Inaugurating the road, the Governor said the infrastructure would open up access to undeveloped areas of the council, permitting more development. The road was named after the Governor to honour Sanwo-Olu’s infrastructure legacy in the council.
The Governor used the opportunity to inform the council’s residents about his administration’s plan to construct key road projects in the Ibeju Lekki community, pointing out that Eleranigbe Road would be attended to in order to open connectivity around Omu Creek.
“I make bold to inform you that we have started the bridge from Sangotedo and will cross over from Omu Creek to drop at Lekki airport area. Once this infrastructure is completed, it will open up the entire corridor,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Olowa said the reconstruction of the council’s headquarters would normalise activities in the local government area, noting that staff members of the council could now work in a workspace that fostered efficiency and innovation.
He said: “This new secretariat complex provides a spacious, well-equipped, and technologically advanced environment which addresses the longstanding challenges of inadequate office space and suboptimal working conditions. With high-speed internet, 24-hour solar lighting, CCTV surveillance, and a dedicated ICT Center, I can confidently declare that we have delivered one of the most advanced local government administrative buildings in the country.”
The council chairman said the new legislative chamber would be the cornerstone of democratic governance in the council. The councillors, he said, would now operate from a befitting office accommodation that reflected the importance of their work.
Olowa said the Citrus Gardens would be more than housing estate. The project, he said, will stimulate economic activity and set a new benchmark for urban development in Ibeju-Lekki.
“The housing estate will feature modern residential units, paved roads, CCTV surveillance, constant security, indoor recreation spaces, and green areas. All designed to promote safe, inclusive, and sustainable living,” the council boss said.

Ejigbo LCDA Unveils Ultra-Modern Secretariat

A brand new ultra-modern council secretariat for Ejigbo local council development area (LCDA) has been unveiled. The event, which held over the weekend, marked a historic milestone for the council. The Chairman of the LCDA, Monsurudeen Oloyede Bello (OBE), unveiled the newly constructed edifice.

The building, named Nurudeen Obe Complex, stands as a tribute to his late father’s legacy.

Bello described it as a significant moment in the history of the council

He specially acknowledged the Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, for his unwavering commitment to grassroots development and his consistent support for the growth of local government administration across the state.

Reflecting on the journey that led to the construction of the edifice, Bello noted that the secretariat’s history dated back to 2003 during the creation of LCDAs under the then Governor, now President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He explained that Ejigbo LCDA operated from the inherited NRC building, which, though used by four successive administrations, was unsuitable for governance.

According to him, the structure, originally meant for party activities, could not support effective administration. Offices were scattered due to space limitations and infrastructure decay, which hindered service delivery. Upon assuming office on July 27, 2017, Bello said it became clear that the NRC structure had to be replaced completely.

“In collaboration with the Department of Works and Infrastructure, we developed a modern design that conforms with the institutional and operational demands of a Lagos State Model city governance,” he said, adding “This is not just another building but a symbol of hope, unity, and inclusive governance. It is a structure that regulates and represents the interests of the Federal Government, Lagos State, Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, and Ejigbo LCDA. “This secretariat is not only a seat of governance; it is a catalyst for economic growth. Its strategic location, nestled between Ajao Estate and the Oshodi-Isolo axis, provides a natural flow of commercial activities and positions Ejigbo as a fertile ground for investors.”

He lauded religious bodies across all faiths for their continuous prayers, moral guidance, and support. He also thanked stakeholders and residents for their trust, patience, and support throughout his administration.

He acknowledged his political personal assistants and paid tribute to his late parents, especially his father, a pioneer politician in Ejigbo Land.

Lagos State APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, praised the project as a landmark achievement. He said the ultra-modern secretariat reflected visionary leadership, purposeful governance, and a strong commitment to the people of Ejigbo and Lagos State.

Lagos APC Slams ADC Over criticisms On Tinubu's Appointments

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the criticisms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s appointments by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as “mischievous” and “emblematic of the party’s long-standing tradition of political irrelevance.”

In a statement on Sunday by its spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the APC accused the ADC of resorting to “petty, uninformed commentary” aimed at undermining the President’s appointments, which the APC described as “merit-based and inclusive.”

The APC noted that President Tinubu’s appointments reflect a commitment to competence, regional balance, and institutional reform, adding that the ADC’s criticism reeks of “political desperation, not patriotic concern.”

The party challenged the ADC to point to a single state, local government, or constituency it governs where its “inclusive” model has produced tangible results, questioning the party’s credibility to lecture the President on leadership.

The APC expressed confidence in the President’s administration and its direction, urging Nigerians to focus on performance rather than propaganda.

The party also called on the ADC to elevate its discourse and resist the temptation to weaponize ethnicity, cynicism, or political bitterness.

The statement read: “President Tinubu’s appointments so far have reflected a deliberate commitment to competence, regional balance, and institutional reform. From technocrats and reformers to seasoned administrators, every appointment made under his leadership has reflected Nigeria’s diversity and the urgency of national renewal.

“Unlike the ADC — which has failed to evolve from a platform of recycled slogans to a body of real policy alternatives — President Tinubu and the APC are focused on nation-building, not optics. The composition of his cabinet and key agency leadership reflects individuals with verifiable track records in both public and private sectors — individuals capable of delivering results in these crucial times.

“It is laughable that the ADC, a party with negligible electoral impact and no real governance experience at the federal or state level, would presume to lecture the President of the Federal Republic on leadership. We challenge the ADC to point to a single state, local government, or constituency it governs where its own so-called ‘inclusive’ model has produced tangible results.

“Criticism, when constructive, is welcomed in any democracy. But the ADC’s rhetoric reeks of political desperation, not patriotic concern.

President Tinubu’s administration continues to engage all Nigerians, regardless of party, ethnicity, or religion, in the quest to restore trust in government and revive the economy. The Lagos APC stands firmly behind the President’s decisions and urges Nigerians to focus on performance, not propaganda.

“The real test of appointments is not where appointees come from — but what they do with the privilege of public service. On that score, we remain confident in this administration’s direction and vision.

“The Lagos APC calls on the ADC to elevate its discourse, if it still wishes to be taken seriously, and to resist the temptation to weaponize ethnicity, cynicism, or political bitterness in moments that demand unity and competence.”
