Slain Lagos NURTW Organizing Secretary, Toba Ajiboye, Laid To Rest In Ketu


The late organising secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Toba Ajiboye, popularly known as Toba Ijaya, was laid to rest in Ketu, Lagos, on Tuesday amid tears from family members, colleagues, friends and supporters.

Viral videos showed a large crowd of mourners paying their last respects to the union leader.

Ajiboye died after succumbing to gunshot injuries sustained when unidentified gunmen attacked his vehicle in the Fadeyi area of Lagos.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the attack and said a manhunt was underway for the assailants.

Reacting to the killing, the Lagos State NURTW Chairman, Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, described Ajiboye as a loyal ally, dependable friend and committed union leader.

“The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. He was more than an ally; he was a trusted friend and a true pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation. His friendship, unwavering support and selfless dedication to the union will forever remain etched in my heart,” he said.

The state police command has not yet issued any update on the killing as speculations continue to swirl around the killing.

The burial also sparked reactions on social media, with many users expressing grief and speculating about the circumstances surrounding Ajiboye’s killing.

Commenting on a viral video of the burial on Instagram, a user, Buchy, wrote, “I don’t know why motor union people like killing themselves.”

Another user, Lolariike, said, “Don’t be surprised if the killer is among them, crying. SMH.”

In Pidgin, Oladayo wrote, “So sad, na so everybody go end one day.”

Crownoloniyo added, “Don’t be surprised if the person who killed this man, or people who know what happened, are among those who came for his burial.”

On Facebook, mourners in a video were heard cursing the killers of the slain NURTW chieftain as the crowd wailed in grief.

A Facebook user, Elegbede, wrote, “The person who killed the man is among them. I know that.”
